Title: 1st practice tomorrow
Post by: welshgit on February 28, 2011, 09:26:43 PM
with a local primary school for this year's entry in the Eistedddfod, so I splashed some cash out on a new kit ;)
(http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6250/img6779edited640x480.jpg) (http://img822.imageshack.us/i/img6779edited640x480.jpg/)

Cost me a whoppin £40  ;D, I learned a hard lesson last year.................children/expensive gear = do not mix ::) The sound on the kit is "different" :-\ ;D I drilled the cymbal and put loose rivets into the holes to get some sort of recognisable sound :o but the smallest tom has a Remo pinstripe skin which is the best part of the kit ;D

Tuned the drums as all were loose and have managed to get a reasonable sound out of it now......................

well that was until I played my other kit earlier :o ;D.

As for what the entry is, I haven't a clue ???, mind you we have until the 17th of March to get it right ::) :)

At last, a drum kit that doesn't have too many cymbals. Just a spare tom or two.  ;)

That drum stool wouldn't last long under most of the drummers I'm aquainted with :)

Be careful, check beforehand. You don't want a loose stool.

results time then, competition went well for us and we finished 2nd which is great for the school. Friday April 1st will see us perform for the parents at the school, so should be a good night.

Alf came 3rd in her piano section, her best result to date. Her school had three 1st places so they now go through in these categories to the National round at Swansea later this year.

Saturday was a long day for all the children, from about eight in the morning, we left before the end and got home about half nine that night but it was worth it :)

Classic West Wales - old enough to walk & talk, old enough to buy booze.

Welshgit - great to read about your daughter. Don't let her give up. My daughter suddenly dropped everything she was doing. Acting, singing, piano & guitar. Appeared on tv, loads of local productions etc. Difficult to know when a parent should interfere or not interfere. No win situation.  I didn't interfere ( not too much anyway ) but should have!  She regrets it.

My lad didn't give up his sport. Finally didn't make it as a pro, but coaches junior football teams most nights of the week, and recently approached by Barnsley FC to coach their academy keepers. Earns a packet whilst still a student, and more importantly, loves it.

Far be it from me to advise you, no way, but if I may say, take heed, if she does show signs of giving up (young kids and all that), maybe do interfere!!!

..if I quoted that, I'd say "ditto". Mine did violin to grade two and gave up, piano to grade 2 and gave up.. Rather than say "gave up", perhaps better to say "lost interest, felt he'd gone far enough..". Perhaps thats the exam system..?..

Taught himself to play drums after.. http://www.myspace.com/firegardensheffield/music/songs/the-circle-26618278 (http://www.myspace.com/firegardensheffield/music/songs/the-circle-26618278)

Found out that not only have we been invited to compete at the National Eisteddfod, but as there are no pre-lims  it's straight on the main stage for a televised performance!!!!!! :)

Better practice I guess then ;D

You wouldn't expect them to be thrown in at the shallow end would you? (Am I right in recalling that as a quote from Deke?)

That's what I meant. Think you'd better post day and time, which by incredible coincidence, is very nearly a song title on Slow Motion. I wonder how Youngy is these days.    :)
