There will no doubt be lots of comment and photos, and reviews from people who are much better at writing them than I, but I have had a quick look at the movie I shot of Deke Leonard's Iceberg doing "Bring It On Home", and it will be up on YouTube just as soon as I get my head together.

I had a thoroughly good night, but left with the feeling that I hadn't really seen an Iceberg gig.  Great musicianship, great choice of covers, originals and back catalogue stuff but the blend left me feeling I'd seen more of an 'all stars' band rather than Iceberg.  That said, it was a bloody good night and I'd pay to go and see it / them again.

Nice on stage banter with Will asking Deke at one point if Deke thought his book was a bit expensive and asking him if he knew there was a recession.

A night to be commended.

The clear highlight of the evening was the Tweke Lewis Trio who powered their way through two numbers on thunderous style...  ;D

Having now read elsewhere that Deke has requested concert footage not to be uploaded to YouTube, I'll respect his wishes. After all nobody likes being bootlegged. If anyone wants to see it I'm sure I could pop it on a CD-R, but I think I might post a copy to the man himself before doing anything else with it.

..I'm getting "This video is private, Sorry about that"..

I was getting the same thing when the youtube links thread popped up again a few weeks ago. Had'nt seen it before, so was delighted to see so much available stuff, but mightily disappointed that most of it had either been deleted or was simply unavailable. What was the story there?  And has all that footage gone forever or can it be seen elsewhere?

of course, no problem !  ;)
It's just a matter of feelings, emotions, language, history, traditions and other facts.
Many people are expecting what happens in Scottland. After Scottland it would be the time for Euskadi (the basque country) and later on maybe Catalonia !  ::)

Spain will win the Euro's football cup...again...  because there are many Bara players...  ;)

Sorry, not the H brothers. I meant the father and son combo. It's Allan's youthful looks that makes this such an easy mistake to make

Oh, dear this could run and run.
When I asked where the smart money had gone, I meant that you had indeed said the 15th, but the date announced was the 16th, which suggested that the 15th may have been where the smart had gone, but was a day off the mark.  Does that make sense?  If not, do we really care ;D.

What's the line up is the next pertinent question 8)

I won a raffle when I weas in jumior school.  100 Woodbines which I gave to an uncle.

So, what I was going to post was where did the 16th come from? It's  only you who has mentioned that date? But now you say that was the announced date. Anyway, I still say 15th. If wrong, my source (who obviously won't be as 'in' as Jules's source, no sirree, will be in serious bovver.

I would be losing the will to live. Thankfully, just heard that miserable git, Murray lost. :)

It was Michael's latest newsletter that had the date shown as Saturday 16th December, rather than Saturday 15th December.  Never any doubt that the latter is correct on both counts.

have I been living on a parallel universe? (ok, don't answer that).

TWC stopped ages ago, way before MAM, followed by the newsletter which then stopped. So there was nothing. Methinks Allan is on a wind up here. ;)

Call me Thicky Nicky, but why should we, beacons of good musical taste, show any interest in Weather Report? It's all very clever, but that sort of stuff leaves me cold. Arf.

...apart from Joe....

Especially as MH's newsletter doesn't have a column on dandelions .....

Isn't that called the stem?

Methinks Allan is on a wind up here. ;)

Depends. If that's 'wind' as in clockwork related, then ok. On the other hand if it's 'wind' as in the metrological phenomena, then I think I have already stated my case. Of which I'm curtain.

Oh, ye of little faith.

I was going to attach this to the post but unfortunately the file is too large.  But it does exist.   Second newsletter since it was resuscitated earlier on this year.

So if the newsletter was resurrected earlier this year, where was it mentioned? Presuming it was mentioned, and presuming it does exist. And wondering why when MH posted on this board earlier, he didn't confirm nor deny.

Some of us didn't decline ....

Every non-existent newsletter would have at least a column - and the occasional centre-page spread - on dandelions - which, as this newsletter doesn't mention dandelions, proves it must exist.

Despite Allan's scan, I know this should be conclusive proof, but Allan does have a canny sense of humour. And he's a clever b*st*rd. ;)  That's been cobbled up.....maybe. I still think there's no newsletter.

If there is a newsletter, as a matter of courtesy, I'm sure MH will be confirming when the decision was made to start the run again, how the decision came about, and how those who've  loyally purchased every TWC, supported most, if not all requests for funds for various causes, were informed. Or he will confirm as I suspect, (hope?) that this is an Allan hoax of H G Wells proportion.

April 1st ? I hope so  :)

Occasional rather than regular, but well worth getting yourself added to the mailing list. As Allan mentions, two editions so far, March 7th and July 6th. I guess these journalist types just don't lie down.

Micky's 2nd Annual XMAS Jam Saturday 15th December (NOT 16TH DECEMBER AS STATED ON THE TWC NEWSLETTER)

Venue and Line-up TBC

What newsletter can you be referring to, George.   Surely not the one that's a figment of my imagination  8)

Are we as well holding back on booking anything?  The newsletter had suggested it would be in Morriston again so had been going to go back to the Premier Inn as per last time.

Michael now has an on line newsletter, you should contact him, if your not on the mailing list.  The Venue for the gig is still up in the air, the Club is experiencing problems at the moment, we are fighting to keep it open, however, I have provisionally booked another venue as back-up.

I'm with Rob on this one. I too have subscribed to every TWC until Ace f*cked everything up. At that point I felt that I didn't want a newsletter that contained anything to do with him (..and still don't).  However, any news about Deke or George is fine. I suspect the two groups can't be separated now to make enough news to fill a newsletter..

I'm a bit miffed that this "newsletter" hasn't been brought to the attention of the board, however, for some reason, that was mh's  decision.. I would have thought keeping in touch with as many of what remains of the fanbase is still in the interest of the remains of the band..

Over to you micheal..

Over to you micheal..

Without any particular knowledge I suspect that the newsletter was distributed to all the remaining subscribers of TWC.  If, as seems to be the case, you'd cancelled then that probably explains why you didn't receive anything.

Equally (and this is but guesswork on my part) given the stooshies that regularly erupt on here, perhaps Michael felt that mentioning a newsletter which takes a broad view of the Manband family would not be appropriate for this forum.  He might not be wrong in that judgement, if that was the case.

And it remains the case that if you want to be on the mailing list, then contact Michael.  His e-mail address is readily available via this board.   If you want him to come on here to justify to one and all his decisions in starting off the newsletter then we've lost the plot big time.

Fair do's Allan. I'm posting only because I have so much time for you.

You have missed my whole point though.

One thing I would like to clarify. My comments about choosing friends. It could be construed I was referring to Man Boarders.  No way. Sorry if it did. The amount of pals I have made  from the Board, not just posting or meeting at  gigs, but visiting each other, and at every 'Man Do', actively introducing newbies to everyone else, you'll know this is not the case.

This smugness and glowing self satisfaction has permeated down from our 'favourite' musician. The Manband imploded, the Board will follow.

Just seen your later post. Certainly in my case, as much a I despise Martin Ace, nothing to do with sides being taken as such.  Each has their own opinion. It's the 'I know something you don't' attitude which stinks.

But the whole issue (sic) of the newlsetter is really very little to do with Mr Ace.  If anything, it's Deke's book and the activities both musical and literary that are probably the main driver in resuscitating the newsletter.   If you'd stopped taking TWC then you won't be on the mailing list - if you contact Michael again, then you can be.   Simples.

And I suspect that Michael's mailing list contains a much wider group than the very small number of people that use this board.   This is a convenient and amusing way of keeping in touch but it is a very limited number of people that use it.  There's an average of just under 15 people online each day.  And I suspect I could probably name them!!

And from my own perspective, I bristle considerably when anyone so much as questions Michael's motives or efforts in helping the band or any of its' members in any way.  Even moreso now when the Manband family such as it is/was is fractured.

...hey everybody, hope everybody is well;im fine...re: well i promised myself that when i got home last december from The Micky Jam

and Deke Iceberg concerts, that once i unwound i would write a story about my experience.i figured it would take me a few days...um well

i've unwound now so here is my story for those who'd like to read it : ...i got to JFK and walked up to the gate.from the bar i heard music i

recognized...it was "freedom rider" by Traffic.never heard that in an airport before.for the next hour waiting for the plane i was regaled with

some good obscure classic rock.it must have been a preset station.i heard Yes -"yours is no disgrace" Dave Mason-"only you know and i

know"...lots of surprising but great tunes that now i can't remember...that was a good lead in...i got off the plane near Swansea after a

connection and long lay over and made my way to Swansea and to my hotel...i called Gary the Luthier who made the Micky sg guitar i bought

from George.he offered to come pick me up the next day and take me back to his house to give the guitar a tune up.after sleeping i

met him the next day.he arrived with his lovely wife and son and we went back to his house on a nice drive.when we got there,we went

out to his work shed.he let me put a peace sign and signature on the wall where every guitar he made had been logged.he opened up the

guitar and let me see inside where his signature was.he modified it slightly and gave it a great set up.we rapped about music, various and

sundry.again a beautiful man with a beautiful family.at his house surrounded by guitars that he made his young son said "i like

blue guitars Daddy".it was adorable.Gary's Dad was there too.he had seen Micky perform...later Gary gave me a ride back to Swansea where

Deke was playing(at the Micky concert Gary was playing at the pub downstairs.i found him to be pretty darn good.he came upstairs briefly but

said he didnt have time to stay and jam)Gary is a cool dude, great guitar maker, and a great musician and i'm grateful for the guitar he

made...when i got to where Deke was i was worried it would be sold out.but it wasn't.i came back later and saw Michael and Helena opening

boxes of Deke's book in the bar...after a long time or a short time George showed up and allowed me to take a photo of him perusing Deke's

book for the first time...i bought my own copy and headed upstairs.i said peace to Michael and to Bob who i met before.no signs for the gig,no

signs of any promotion, but after a while the room filled up a bit...the show was good, but a couple tunes had the kinks still being worked out

of them, at the beginning of the run.i had it in my mind to go to all of Deke's shows, having come from overseas, but i didnt know exactly how

to swing it.i had booked hotels and b and b's in close proximity to each gig.but traveling between those points was dicey.someone suggested i

ask Bob about getting to the next Iceberg gig cause he lived nearby.he gave me his moblie and told me to give him a call the next

afternoon.i got Deke to sign the book...the next day Bob agreed to pick me up at a train station and take me over to the gig.i had to wait a

few hours in the town where he picked me up.i parked my bag and guitar in a cafe/bar and read Deke's book.i was liking feeling the

ambience;when he went to see Elvis movies i felt like i was there...then i met up w Bob and we drove and talked:about playing

music, teaching music, politics, and various and sundry.we did discuss the break up.it didnt sound very fun or functional.as i'm friends w Phil

(Phil likes a lot of the same music that i do and puts down a "like" which i dig) and Martin on fb and haven't heard what they have to say i

won't comment further or take sides on something that is now receding further into the past; just to say that i hold Bob in the highest

possible regard as a musician and human being after spending quality time with him and hearing him up close...as night approached the road

started getting windy.it started snowing. a lot.this gig was in a place that back in the states we would affectionately refer to as "east

cupcake"...we drove down a steep hill precariously to where we thought the gig was.it was a dark and desolate cottage from the outside.Bob

made some calls; no answer.he was wondering if the gig was cancelled.the mood darkened further.we waited a little while.a lone car

appeared.a man got out and turned on the lights of the cottage.he was the owner Steve, a nice cat.we put Bob's drums together(he let me

have a tap) and i tried to warm up. on the inside it was a bar with lots of band posters on the wall(possibly some of which were imported from

a previously owned bigger venue that hosted many legends over the years)...the band showed up and played to a full room...the set was

tightening up in my view.i talked to Will who while signing records for a young local Man fan remembered signing a book for me at the Micky

jam and proceeded to tell some racy stories about the BITF album era that i won't repeat here ...after the gig it was very icy on

the steep road...i was amazed that we managed to traverse it.Bob dropped me off at my b and b a country mile away that had a huge

radiator next to the bed(funny thinking of that in the summer)that i was thankful for...the next day Bob again out of the kindness of his heart

agreed to meet me at the train stop to hitch a ride to the Micky jam.we met and left a little earlier for a day drive.this day he played me

demos of the new project that he and George are working on.on some of the tracks he was singing but was wondering who to get to do some

vocals.i thought he sounded fine singing the stuff himself.i enjoyed hearing the interplay between George and the other guitarist.it sounded

like they were switching off on lead and rhythm with complimentary results.hope it comes out soon...so we made it to the Micky jam...George

was there ...some local people were there and helped facilitate a soundcheck for me.one told me next year all i had to do was pay for plane

fare and i could stay at his and his wifes cottage with all the free dope i could smoke.sounds like a plan...George was gonna give the specs a

little later on sitting in...some fans came in Tony Smith,Nick Ring,Rob Woolfe a bunch of others but a bunch more were at the pub...a few of

us wandered up/down the road to the pub.many more fans were there and it was good to see the ones i'd met before and meet some new

people id only read from on the forum...we made our way back over...had some nice conversations with fellow fans and settled in to listen.it

was a good show with different guests coming in and out over the night...somewhere in the middle before Deke's set George came up to me

and said "do you know Romain;what do you know the best?" i said i knew Bananas & 7171 551 the best but i thought i could swing

Romain...he came back later and implied we'd jam w Deke on 7171 551...a little while later Deke:"is anyone Man enough to take the stage"

such as it was this was my cue.so i got up there and just tried to plug in as quickly as possible(i had already tuned).Brian Breeze came up to

me and told me the opening chords.but i didn't listen because i thought"i know the changes";alas he was talking about the intro which i didnt

know.so i had to use the old adage "when in doubt lay out"; theres always a lot of people to cover parts at jam sessions.oh well.so i played

the lead lines w the harmony and a bass note and some scratch guitar behind Deke and noodled at the end.didn't take a solo wasn't sure of

the protocol.but after we were done Deke came up to me and said "nice one Davey".that was enough for me...later the aformentioned local

gave me a little bit of smoke and the Man fan contingent started to make our way home.a local guy on the st was messing with some of us

fans, referring to me as "she"...i was thinking to myself, its 2011 not 1962, this guys not used to long hair on a man?what is this, easy

rider?...well his bark was worse than his bite;he faded off into the woodwork...Rob W and i stayed on to help Bob with his kit then walked

back to the hotel where Rob also kindly allowed me to stay in his room on a fold out...a bunch of us convened to the lobby with a bottle of

something.wont try and name everyone lest i leave anyone out...eventually we retired after attempting to make reservations for next year ...i

do have one complaint about Rob.he snored...it was one single short snore, sometime in the middle of the night....otherwise he was quiet as a

mouse...the next morning i had some breakfast with Tony and Nick and they gave me a ride back to town.just one more show to make it

to :the Deke show at the legion in neath...so i made my way over to neath to the legion.again saw  some faces i recognized...now this gig felt

a bit different.basically i started feeling some culture shock like a fish out of water far away from home.people were definitely staring at

me.they knew i was from somewhere else and some people thought i was a girl(i'm not)it was surreal, slightly unnerving but a powerful

ambience w a ying inside the yang of a xmas/bday vibe .the smoke i was given intensified the experience.Deke came into the bathroom while

i was in there and said "nice playing with you Davey" i shouldve thought of something witty to say like "why?" but i said "that means a lot.it

was a dream come true for me(i mean Deke's on that level to me,i'll take that to my grave,he's an immense guitarist, singer and songwriter in

my book,i mean i don't think he's bulletproof;anyhow i digress)to which he said "you tragic creature"... again i should have said something

poignant like"im here to inform you that it is opposites day"  but all i could say was "you call yourself that and everyone else that in your

books"(it was actually in an old copy of the welsh connection where he refers to himself as that after a flubbed tv line on a talk show)...i will

say that "circumstances" had special meaning to me that night...we left the bathroom and it was almost time for the show...they were playing

some loud good music over the speakers(Santana: samba pa ti) but also bad(Clapton:here in heaven)...i now was really starting to feel

Deke's repetoire, but i realized it wasn't such a "hippy" philoposhy that Deke was repping in his songs.there were shades of it but also shades

of nihilism(at one point Deke did say "go nihilism" during the philisophical banter that took place before "please don't go").it was like scary

but compelling in a "can you stand it,can you get your bearings back" kind of way;being taken off on a tangent without grounding, but a

strange kind of mystical experience...map of india was best this night,it was so good...another night contained the best razor blade and

rattlesnake...another the best 7171 551...thats how the run came across to me...there was at least one perfect version of every song to

enjoy...but i did enjoy this last show the best of the Deke performances...there was something about the ambience there at the legion that

took me way out there from what i know...and since it was Dekes b day he had some good jokes: "Bob and Lemmy are always 'texting' like a

bunch of pansies" Deke found out he was a week older then Lemmy...he told a story about hanging with Terry Williams and Lemmy when he

was breaking up with Hawkwind.Lemmy wanted to form a new band that played real heavy music.he invited Terry and Deke to join.Deke

said " no Lemmy, never would ...never would...i mean no one would buy it"...Deke was a bit chagrined that someone came up to him during

the break and said "who's Lenny?"...Deke seemed to really enjoy playing there... after the show i went back to say goodbye and help Bob

with his kit. Will was back there with Deke and he said "did you have a good time last night?" i said "yeah it was beautiful" he said "im

surprised how many parts you knew, you knew more than he did "gesturing at Deke who demurred.then Will stepped out and i said "bye Deke

i'm heading to new york" he said "thats tidy, if youve got to be in america new yorks the place" he then started to tell me a story about being

in nyc back in the Man days wandering into a bar after a show and seeing B.B. King...it was fun hearing the intro to the story but then he

realized it was in the book.i told him i was on page 87...he said "is it good" i said "you do realize that you are a fantastic writer right?" he said

he wasn't sure after getting lost in it...i told him happy b day...he said thanks...Brian Breeze came in and said goodnight and "peace" Deke

said "piece of what?" Brian said "peace of ass" and went home...then Deke said again "nice playing with you Davey" ...i said "likewise"...then i

left...again i helped Bob with his kit and he gave me a ride to my hotel(again thank you Bob)...i was thirsty at night and went down stairs to

the bar where there was a little fridge open...i did it:i took a tiny bottle of bitter lemon i love that stuff...i left a couple of pounds in the

room...the next day i made my way to the airport waited all day slept another night and had a long lay over before i finally got home to

brooklyn...thanks to George,Bob,Rob,Tony,Nick and everyone else who helped me get around.and it was great to see and talk to

everybody...looking forward to the next one...here is a link to some pics and to a film Pete Middleton made of the Jam-peace and cheers

everyone... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2871615878454.148537.1501593211&type=3    http://www.facebook.com/springdavey?sk=photos#!/video/video.php?v=3806004197578

Well worth some applause.

I reckon Rob's "one single short snore, sometime in the middle of the night" was probably from 3 in the morning through to 10 o'clock  ;)

I was going to post a rant. To be  honest I can't be arsed.

If what's wanted is a hierarchy amongst the few here, then great. Do it. I have more of a life, than to get involved.

They say you judge a person by the company they keep. Enough said.

Gavin (and others) were right after all.

Thanks for the good times

See ya

x

Nonsense.  Complete and utter.

Nothing else to say

Perhaps you can explain then why myself, Rob and Pete T, all long term subscribers to TWC have been excluded? I'm particularly disappointed having only a couple of months ago  (around the time this newsletter started) and against my better judgement, done free filming and editing for Michael at his request.

Also I gave him the Micky Jones Memorial DVD to press for the second run which presumably he has made a profit on (no Saint Michael doesnt do all this stuff for the good of the band / charity as we did). So of course he has my email address. Well never mind but never again!

I dont look in here very often and am disappointed to see this sort of thing still going on.
Very disappointing that myself, Rob and Pete werent informed (strange how he couldnt manage to contact any of us 3) and why TF something wasnt at least posted on here about it (perhaps even the newsletter itself) it wouldnt have been that dificult!

Dear me whatever next?

PS I was right Allan!

Gav, you really do need to get sorted on this.

You posted yesterday a similar post on the newslette thread, and I referred you to reply #6 of that thread. The one where I apologised to MH because he had tried to contact me and I'm told, others. You acknowledged that.

I can't understand why you're therefore repeating a similar thing here. Michael assured me he did not exclude me.  Sorry Gav, but I therefore distance myself from that reference to me.

Yes you are correct about many other points you raise (not referring to your post here, though).

I can only repeat my thanks to MH for having the courtesy to phone me and explain what happened.

I preferred reading Davey's stuff.  The world must look better through his eyes, perhaps we should borrow them.

One snort from Rob W!  No wonder he looked tired next morning.

Hmmmm! I wonder which way this is going.

And Davey. The following morning, we shared breakfast together. You and me. On a small table with a vase containing a red rose no less.

Our night together. Didn't it mean anything to you?

Terrible sh*g anyway

I went to see the Wilko Johnson Band last night and really enjoyed it. The place was packed and everybody was just really enjoying themselves. Nobody mentioned that Dr Feelgood are still touring without Wilko or Lee Brilleaux, or even that the Blockheads are touring without Ian Dury.

To see all the whinging going on here 4 years after the band split is so sad. And Michael does no favours to the band and it's "family" (lol)with the way he carries on just encouraging division amongst the handful of fans that are left.

As dissmissive as the likes of Allan, Jules and Michael are I was right with what I said about the split thats why were all left just raking through the ashes now. Even Davy with his rose tinted spectacles has a greater sense of balance (great story BTW). I'm starting to think that actually it would be more respectful to Micky, Clive etc. if this all ended. All things have to come to an end. This is undignified and shabby and this once great band deserves better.

I'm going to delete my account here I have better things to do than get involved this crap any more.
You all (and especially you Michael) should be totally ashamed of yourselves.

So that leaves 14... enough for a clique?  :(

... All so very sad, that it's become so partisan. As Mike M said, it's like a feud at a family wedding.

Notwithstanding where we are now, I don't think anyone can deny the collective input that all the band members have contributed to over the last 40-odd years (and some of them have been very odd indeed.) Surely the same can be said about the various boarders and their contributions (not the bit about the oddness).

Thought Davey's post was a great read, it seems to smack of a bygone mindset, probably one that most of us had back in the day.

Whatever ... I still find this board an island of sanity in an otherwise mad world. Listening to The Russian Wilds album just now. Very nice indeed.

Well that's more than attended The Last Supper.  And look what became of that lot, in spite of all the divisions.

(Ducks for cover.  Wondering what on earth he meant by that... :-[)

Back up to 15   :)

Received an unexpected but most welcome pm last night from someone not been on the board for a long, long time and rejoined. (Post was nothing to do with the goings on). Another fella to be introduced at the Dec gig. Providing he doesn't fall foul of those nasty Druids (in joke, sorry! Google Oulton Park double apex corner if you're fussed. Martin, you can use a reference book).

if 14 is a clique, do we call 15 a rugby team  ?

I read somwehere that the number 13 is considered unlucky because that's the number of people who sat at the Last Supper.

Not te self:  get out of the house a bit more.
