There may not be buses where Pete's going. That's my only (age) concern!  ???

(There are precious few round here...)

There may not be buses where Pete's going.
Several a day, from Inverness to Cape Wrath, and back, even fitted with trailers to carry bicycles..

Don't worry - you'll be getting Eco-buses that run on potato peelings and apple cores come Bordon's Eco-Town crowning.

Fruitmasters!!!!!

Fruitmasters!!!!!

Nice one, Rob! We've done Man 'Fish' jokes, AC/DC meat jokes, now we have a rare piece of environmentally aware vintage public transport related word play.

So I'll see your Fruitmaster and raise you an RT choke.

It's a shame this isn't the Eric Clapton thread - I could have replied with "AEC was here"!

Nowt wrong with that - I've just written a cheque to send to the chap that took the Worcester Park pic in 1952. AND..I've even paid full price for the license to use the Griffin font. Mind you, the band line up has changed since this mock up!!!

Rob.  Is that the Kingston to Sutton Bus route that linked Feenstra's old venues at the Grey Horse, the Worcester Park Club and Sutton's Boom Boom Club?  Presumably then, its the Beetroot.   :-[

All Right! Can We Do It? Can We Do It One More Time? 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 Owwwwwwwwwwwww!

Our Father, Who art in Hendon
Harrow Road be Thy name
Thy Kingston come
Thy Wimbledon In Erith as it is in Hendon.
Give us this day our Berkhampstead
And forgive us our Westminsters
As we forgive those who Westminster against us.
Lead us not into Temple Station
And deliver us from Ealing,
For thine is the Kingston
The Purley and the Crawley,
For Iver and Iver
Crouch End

Ahh, the awe and mystery of the Man Band.

Pretty much, yes - despite Beetroot not normally being something that suffers "club root"!!!

Let's raise a glass to the old Worcester Park club - a venue I frequented err.. frequently both as player and punter. The pub is still there (vastly improved from the old days despite the lack of club) and in fact Mrs Rob the Organ and I will be off there for a Sunday evening constitutional very shortly....

No venue, then, but Worcester Park does have one useful feature - a second hand vinyl shop that you have to walk past when you are being dragged into Waitrose. If that isn't genius planning, I don't know what is (cue for the smart ass that knows of a guitar strings shop that is open on Sundays until just before an evening gig and staffed by Nordic blondes handing out complementary drugs while the credit card terminal authorises...).

Nick - I'll see your Bus Driver's Prayer and raise you a Transport Of Delight (courtesy of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann):

Some people like a motorbike, some say, "A tram for me!",
Or for bonny army lorry, they'd lay them down and dee.
Such means of locomotion seem rather dull to us,
The driver and conductor of a London omnibus!

Hold very tight please, ting ting.
Hold very tight please, ting ting.

When you are lost in London, and you don't know where you are,
You'll hear my voice a-calling, "Move further down the car!".
And very soon you'll find yourself inside the terminus,
In a London transport, diesel engine, ninety-seven horsepower omnibus.

Along the Queen's great highway, I drive my merry load,
At twenty miles per hour in the middle of the road.
We like to drive in conveys, we're most gregarious,
The big six-wheeler, scarlet painted, London transport, diesel engine, ninety-seven horsepower omnibus.

Earth has not anything to show more fair,
Mind the stairs, please,
Mind the stairs...
Mind the stairs...
Earth has not anything to show more fair,
Any more fares?
Any more fares, any more fares?

When cabbies try to pass me before they overtakes,
I sticks me flippin' hand out and I jams on all me brakes.
Those jackal taxi drivers can only swear and cuss,
Behind that monarch of the road,
Observer of the highway code,
That big six-wheeler,
Scarlet painted,
London transport,
Diesel engine,
Ninety-seven horsepower omnibus.

I stops when I'm requested, although it spoils the ride,
So we can shout,
"Get out of it! We're full right up inside".

We don't ask much for wages, we only want fair shares,
So cut down all the stages, and stick up all the fares.
If tickets cost a pound apiece, why should you make a fuss?
It's worth it just to ride inside,
That thirty-foot long by ten-foot wide,
Inside that monarch of the road,
Observer of the highway code,
The big six-wheeler,
London transport,
Diesel engine,
Ninety-seven horsepower,
Ninety-seven horsepower omnibus!

Hold very tight, please!
Ting ting!
 ;D

Yes indeed, Andrew...when melody was king! For extra relevance (?) it even starts like 'The Joker' by Steve Miller!

Seriously, I would have thought that the entire Manband would now be oh so grateful that their fans have been regularly coming up with so many good ideas.

(Room goes a bit quiet, band members glance at each other....)

In fact, I've got an even better idea!

(Band members now visibly wincing in anticipation....)

....what's needed is a Melodekka solo. It's great.

(cue Augustus Pablo looking very upset, etc)

That's it - all ship, shape and Bristol fashion.

Cue German-sounding version of Queen Victoria saying "VR not amused"

Ho!

....."VR not amused"

Even better!

Rob (and any other fans of heritage transport out there in your closets) - I do have a vague idea (no change there then) of doing some sort of promotional daftness with a friend's Routemaster in connection with the release of 'The Unfinished Dinphonies' next month. I would have thought running backwards and forwards between Rough Trades East and West by a variety of routes through Central London with a nice 'little' (ahem) sound system belting out the CD might be quite relevant. Could also be an opportunity to meet up with some of our fellow Manboarders in bizarre circumstances. And I could give a guided tour! Could take in relevant Man related haunts, The Roundhouse, Strand Adelphi....

Is anybodies fancy getting tickled, or shall I just shut up?

Will you have a suitably animated DJ...like Murray the KSW?

Thanks Pete - all seems a very long time ago now!

The reason I'm ageing rapidly are weekends like this last one.

Saturday
am - Shopping.
pm - To Guildford to buy daughter computer - out of stock so 60-mile round trip to Portsmouth.
eve - Gig depping in a party band playing their real bass player's surprise 50th party.

am - Back to Portsmouth as daughter bought wrong computer.
pm - Rehearsal with occasional local band (Gene Clark, Johnny Rivers, utterly obscure US singer/songwriters!).
eve - Drive daughter back to Bromley in storm conditions with computer.

Now - totally sh**ged!  :o

MySpace has only a brief acoustic guitar demo instrumental which will have changed beyond all recognition by the end of next week. I shall have time to finish off some recordings as the band is not rehearsing. Just as well, for I wouldn't want to be branded a slave driver after MH's harrowing weekend report. (MH is our new bass player..like none of you knew already).

Fear not Pete - I am too much of a media-whore to NOT tell you when any samples are ready!!!!
