Go would be mind / mynd (can't recall the spelling), allan would be out.

So mind allan would be go/ing out.

You are right Mike - long time since I did any Welsh!

Barry,  I often wonder where in the depths of my memory I drag it up from.  Haven't had a conversation in Welsh for probably 45 years or so, but I suppose when you pick something up at a very young age it can stay with you for life.

If it's been googled etc, I will mention that I've done it.
My spelling is probably bloody awful though!

Thanks, all. Entirely sober evening out for a lovely meal with my wife Eileen, along with Martin and his girlfriend.  Friday's beer and curry night though  ;)

I always enjoyed seeing the lay-bys on the west coast of Wales with the signs that said 'Allan Out'.

Oddly on the roads down to Swansea from the M5 they say 'Allan Exit' which isn't nearly as amusing.

And let's not forget the wonderful John Bannon with whom I share my birthday.

Gorsaf/Station caused some confusion on a trip through Wales many years ago. Thought Gorsaf was a town and we were going round in circles....!

My brother-in-law once suggested we go to Traeth Beach for the day. He's from Staffordshire. Took a while for us to convince him it was a bilingual sign that he saw.

And Many Happy Returns (belatedly) Allan (or Exit) from this little corner of Cymru/Wales.

Cue 'We'll keep a welcome in the hillsides, We'll keep a welcome in the dales, This land of ours will still be singing, When you come home again to Wales' Always sing this to the family when we cross the Severn Bridge. As you can imagine they are always well impressed.

May I just say HB 2 JB?

More abbreviations for Scourie Man to wrestle around :)

I know your geoger is utter sh*te, (B*lt*n/Bury pffft!), but since when has Clydach been Scourie?

Being you though, you're forgiven. And of course you were wrong, but then you knew that didn't you ;)

And a big Mwahh to you Rob, and all the others in the greater Barry area from Clydach upon Scourie.

BTW I did once work in Chorlton thingy Hardy which is near the epicentre of greater Bury and where Man U aren't strutting their stuff.  I was reminded the other day that Moyes once said that he would do his utmost to get Everton above Man U in the Prem.  Seems an unorthodox way of doing it, but if it gets him the outcome he was after...

I thought that was Chorlton's middle name but was hesitant to use it.  The only thing I can properly remember about the place was there was a bust station which had a McDonalds near it and there was a pub on a set of lights.

Is "liff" another of those Welsh words?

Like Allan? (Apparently)

Mr W.  'Away of Liff' is intended as irony as it contains a clear spelling error and another whatyoucall.  But if you google 'the meaning of Liff' you should find a link to a delightful book which Douglas Adams was co-author of.

And did anyone mention what the Swans done to the blue(ish)birds yesterday? 8)

Mr M. I fully understood the irony of your post.

I laughed. Sort of. Begrudgingly.

Still thought I'd ask about 'liff' though cos it looks Welsh. Sort of. Begrudgingly.

That programme with Griff Rhys Jones about Wales is sh*te isn't it?

He seems to have got the crap programme making honed to a fine art. His series on Mountains was so pathetic it was untrue. A bit of walking and some 'amusing vignettes' with the locals. He is probably getting paid a small fortune for such vapid guff. They should screen Human Traffic and Twin Town instead.
