Title: The unrelated to anything else thread.
Post by: Mike Burgess on November 27, 2009, 10:53:49 AM
Only posts that have nothing to do wih the preceding post may be posted here. (much the same as any other thread on this board!)
on an unrelated note, played Maximum Darkness on headphones last night.
On reflection should have used a CD player, it might have sounded better. Though I might not have.
(apologies for mentioning something directly Man related)

My Mum and stepdad are coming up today from Dinas Powys.
I had liver and bacon for dinner and my internet access payment method expired so I set it up again.

Despite my best efforts, I still can't work out how to change the bulb in my bathroom mirror and intend going to the place I bought the mirror from to see if they can help.
I have the replacement bulb which came with a two year guarantee which is ticking away even though it's not being used.

Ahh.  A version of the 'yes no interlude' from either the 'double your money (?)' quiz show ( reseurrected by Des O'... You know who I mean) or from Hatfield and the North's "Rotters club" album.

Be careful out there people.  I wasn't aware of the rules and look what happened to me.

ps couldn't be arsed ti check out the spelling of 'resuerrected'. Apologies.

Would still be intersted in what pasty Zippy bought, unless of course that knocks him out of the frame as well.

cheese and onion and it was good value. my son chose the corned beef and potato option and he seemed happy with that. he's 18 next friday. he's not having a party;just a night on the town with his mates on the day.  no doubt much jollity will ensue and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth on saturday.on the saturday, the family are going for a meal and i've every reason to suspect his mother will once again try to drink her father under the table and meet with the usual lack of success

Good option the C&O pasty.  Not sure about combining it with C&O crisps though.  More for the contrast me, would have been ready salted or S&V.  C&O would have been ok with the chicken tikka slice.
What's the difference between a slice and a pasty?

Don't you think there's something fundamentally wrong about C&O being in a blue pack and S&V being in green.  I mean, it's not natural.  S&V was always blue.

I find the corned beef have a bit of a slimy (for want of a better word) texture to them and usually try to avoid them.

Hope the boy has a good night out; mine wanted the same parental absenteeism and the thought of my being there prob would have had him leaving at a very early hour.  That despite the fact that I don't do dancing.  Of any kind.  Particularly not Dad Dancing.

Nevermind, eh?  Back to watch Wales being humiliated by the convicts from down under.

ps was it a meal deal or just your own choice?

just my choice. but you're right, i should have gone for the mixed experience. it would have brought a ray of colour to a somewhat dull luncheon. could have had dr pepper as well to really liven things up.
i know it's spelt pastie, but you didn't see the colour of the pastrie :D.
now out a second time for repetition but felt the whole  situation needed clearing up before anyone became concerned about things and was unable to sleep soundly due to unnecessaryworryabout it.

I bougt a pasty from Tesco tonight (chicken if you must know) and the wrapper spells 'pasty.

It's sell by date is about a week off and I bought it in case I'm hungry when I get home after a half day on the lash on Friday.  I'll probably have some HP sauce with it.

Anyone here know The Queens pub near Swansea docks.  Sorry, the Marina.  Awesome. Real pub, regulars, bar staff who know what people drink and what their names are.

Mind, the stuffed bear in the corner has seen better days.  Maybe in Swansea's Number10 pub many years ago?

Shopped at the supermarket last weekend, arrived at the checkout, put my goods on the conveyer belt....24 cans of strong lager, trying to be sensible, only put 16 cans of Hobgoblin which was on offer and 10 packets of Bavarian smoked cheese with ham. The lady behind the till asked if I needed any help with packing the items, of course I said no. Packed the items in double quick time, hate to keep people waiting (one of my pet hates, when it happens to me).
As I paid the bill, the till lady said she thought it was awful sweet that I would do the shopping for my student son.
I nodded in agreement, she then commented on the Barvarian smoked cheese, asking if it was nice to eat.....I said its absolutely brilliant if you eat with a mixture of Hobgoblin and strong lager....and immediately I realised I'd given the game away......Anyone got a spare student son I can go shopping with next week......

My sympathies, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as most students don't learn anything of significance until they have left college.  My lad was an inveterate lager drinker while at college in Manchester but converted to beer (as a direct result of peer pressure) when he returned home for a while and went drinking with me and my mates.  Calling him a northern pooftah seemed to have the desired effect (Rob, for your situation I suggest a different geographical approach). On return to Mcr he undertood what he had been missing. He now only drinks lager if he has a beer induced hangover.  Patience dear boy, patience.

I specifically chose to go to Uni in Manchester because you could get over 25 different breweries' ales in the town centre and this was before micro-breweries really got going.

After just missing the Ely brewery and my first pints being Brains and/or Rhymney I was never going to be a lager drinker...

5 litre 'barrel' of SA in Tesco - around ?15.  Only problem is that it starts going off once the seal has been broken so it has to be drunk fairly quickly. 5 hours is my best effort so far.

There's also a joke on the two litre bottles of 'Bow - once opened, consume within two days'.  Oh, how I laughed.

Aha, but! and furthermore...Oho, then again!

It was 'Danger Man' - McGoohan liked it so much a further three (?) DM episodes were filmed there...and as you say, subsequently The Prisoner.

I did not not know that DM had filmed in Portmeirion.  I have only vague (good) memories of DM, either because it was a long time ago or because I've had my memory a long time an it's not as good as it was.

It will all be down to opinion, but I have a hard time believing anyone who has seen the original will like the new version.

It seems ro take itself far too seriously... and the main point seems to have changed - what was one man against the system, and number 2 was replaced regularly as he failed to break number 6, this version is relly one man against another man, a constant number 2. It changes the whole dynamic for me.

Still, if you've paid for Ian McKellan, I suppose you have to make the most of him.

Funnily I have just said on another forum I just do not get TV Series remakes that are just a rehash of the original series - and The Prisoner was one I quoted - along with Battlestar Galactica and V.

A remake or reboot has to take it in a direction that will hold the viewers. They did it with Dr Who and Smallville - both with great success.

The Prisoner remake always had a lot to live up to and it as you say, Tim, the whole idea that No 2 was replaced every week (even if Rumpole did make 2 appearances) was the main point. Also there are certain TV characters that are so identifiable with the original actor that replacing them is a hiding to nothing - Patrick McGoohan as No 6 (though you would probably get away with Danger Man), Patrick McNee as Steed, even the likes of Jason King and the Men From UNCLE. It would be like recasting Morse - Oi ITV - NOOOOO!

But then I never thought any Robin Hood could surpass Richard Greene.  ;D

All this talk about Robin Hood reminds me of a story I read, about a bride who wanted the theme tune to Robin Hood played as she walked down the isle. I think it was some love tune crap by Brian Adams.
Imagine her surprise when half way down the isle the organist starts playing:
Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding down the glen,
Robin Hood, Robin Hood with his band of men.
Feared by the bad, loved by the good;
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood!

I'd have paid any amount of money to see that. Talk about your big day going asunder and there nowhere near the fight at the reception at this stage.

Then flick the ruler so it made a the spring like sound from the opening titles of the series.

And that was before drugs.....

We also used to sing a very lavatorial version of that theme song

Hey Rob, Must have been 'Phaedra' used to listen to John Peel late at night with the radio attached to my ear, he played about two and a half minutes of this LP, I thought it was fantastic, immediately went out with my hard earned money and purchased the album...only to find out the two and a half minutes John Peel played were the only thing resembling music on the whole LP.....expect lots of people to say this is the best album by Tangerine Dream and disagree with me.
Must admit some of their earlier stuff that Martin D. has introduced us to lately, is of the highest quality.

Many Thanks to the Rodent. This has got to be the most original thread ever put up. Anyone who's followed the forum over the years will realise that immediately a point is made, no matter how serious, someone changes it to another thread. How to circumnavigate that, make an entry called  'The unrelated to anything else thread', very clever, can never be bettered.

To carry on this thread, just got an email from someone I was going to meet first thing in the morning, work related of course. They have to go to the dentist for some emergency repairs. I empathised with them as best I could and as soon as the phone went down, went yipeeeeeeee, I'm now now going to have a well deserved lie in....on a Monday morning I can't believe it....

Cripes, it's FA Cup Final Day. Chelsea (league champions, favourites, rich, flash) versus Portsmouth (underdogs, relegated, financial ruin). Guess who we're rooting for.

Something in one of the papers made me chuckle, describing David James's goalkeeping jersey as being 'the colour of a schoolgirl's highlighter pen'.

Pete B himself would also count as he played an african drum on 'Something Is Happening'.

But there's more....

Pete, that's brilliant! No.

Maybe you should consider things from a more metrological point of view. Twice.

Talking about Pugwash...some months ago I watched some funny videos of him in Youtube. He was joking a lot.
It was like some kind of "Weathers channel". Anyone know how to find them? I can't.

Had cause to revisit Mssrs Piblokto of late. What a fine bunch. Now as we know, Mr Ryan joined them after the two LPs had been released. But when I listen to those LPs - especially on 'Got A Letter' and 'Station Song'...I keep thinking it's Phil. Which it isn't.

Errrm....that 4 track demo that inclused 'Welsh R Blunt'... was that made after the 2 albums, or in between?
