First bleary reviews... just got up and had a coffee, and I'm starting to function. Last night? A devastating performance. In the post-MJ era of the band this has to be the best one I've seen (and heard). I glanced at the setlist taped to the stage floor before they started, but after the opener "Sudden Life" I cannot recall the order of songs at all, other than the two encore ones, "Bananas" and "Spunk Rock" (the latter with Clint on joint keyboard duty with Phil). Others will no doubt provide the setlist and a better review than this, but stand out points for me were the wonderful full sound courtesy of Phil's keyboards being higher in the mix, also some pure genius guitar improvisation from George. I know he is his own man, but I closed my eyes during one of his solos and it could have been his Dad playing. It was spellbinding. Martin seemed genuinely happy to be playing to the home crowd and much banter was exchanged, including the expected "we don't do requests" response to a cry for "Scotch Corner". Good to meet fellow Manboarders Neil from Oxford and Alan all the way down from Scotland. Saw plenty of other familiar faces and also raided the merch stall for 4 CDs (the reissues). I was driving, so couldn't partake of the ale, but the performance was of such awesome proportions I just stood there slack jawed, enjoying every minute.

Anyway, first thoughts on awaking.

I couldn't make Swansea. Man on home turf is always a goody so bitterly disappointed, but hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I wonder if anything will be on youtube :wink:

I've followed the band since before BGTY came out.  When I saw the set list I wondered if I was doing the right thing in going yesterday.  The band were superb; amazingly tight.  George was up to his usual high standard and I was really impressed with Josh in the way he played and how comfortable he looked on stage compared to previous outings.

Shame that it was difficult to see Bob as I always like to see band members enjoying themselves.  I think the only time I could see him was when Ace senior moved to the side of the stage.  Bought the Berkely CD which is as good as everyone said it was. Exceeded my expectations by a long way.  Phil - brilliant.  Great night.

For those intrested set lists! i have the Swansea set list printed on nice thick paper and signed by all the players on the night including Clint!  ( not that he was'ent a player but my English is crap!)  If you want it send me a email , in case there is more than one i wil pick the winner out of a rather large hat on friday!

Just to reiterate the comments about Saturday's gig - top notch stuff and it was a joy to see Phil back in the band.

Pretty much the same setlist as before, I think, but we lost Diamonds & Coal and got C'Mon back (including a keyboard solo using the guitar sound a la Face To Face).  Encored with Bananas and Spunk Rock.  The opening duo were simply immense and fully lived up to my greatest expectations knowing they were going to be played.

There's a great balance at the moment between respecting the heritage (without running the risk of copying Micky and/or Deke) alongside the fresher material.

Howsabout playing all of DYLIH in line with the current fashion for playing complete albums. Wasn't my idea but it's a good one!!

My idea was to work up Keep On Crinting and Never Say Nups To Nepalese.  I think that's a good one too!!!

Nice venue as well - head, shoulders and various other body parts better than Sin City.

I wasn't there on Saturday but caught a couple of the shows on this tour and I have to agree with Allan that the band are striking exactly the right balance between respecting the heritage and bringing their own new ideas to the table.

I also think as many have said that Phil's playing adds a new dimension to the sound and his rejoining the fold has been a resounding success.

It's an interesting idea about playing DYLIH in it's entirety as it's many peoples favourite Man album including (quite probably) mine. Of the songs on the album not currently in the set I reckon George could sing Angel Easy and Were Only Children well. Its All Good Clean Fun may not be too easy to reproduce live with all the backwards effects and stuff but I reckon it could be adapted for a live performance.

All in all it's been a very successful tour and the band deserves congratulations for it.

You know, last Thursday, I dusted off my vinyl DYLIHN and listened to it, headphones on, courtesy of the tour, and thinking it all could be played live 'We're Only Children' in particular would be great, live. And I did think to myself, wonder how they could play the outro to 'All Good Clean Fun' Spooky world, innit.
Don't think we should say as if surprised, how well Phil Ryan sounds with the band. Was there ever a question?
