Hey,
glad so many of you like Phil's contributions to the band. When I read that he was back in I travelled from Germany to London and from there to Wolverhampton just to see them live. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed. Fantastic gigs and an excellent choice of material. I enjoyed Phil's criminally underrated "Something Is Happening" and his majestic keyboard playing on all numbers. He really knows when to get going and when it's time to step back to make room for George. And did anyone of check him playing his really magnificent BANANAS solo simultaneously on organ AND electric piano? Never heard anything like that before. Glad I made the trip to England.

Oh yes, and I really agree with Allan: the time is right for "Never Say Nups To Nepalese"
And what about "Would the Christians Wait?"

Matt, you've made my day! I thought I was the only flag-waver for "Would The Christians Wait...". It's a tune which keeps popping into my head and I absolutely love the version on To Live For To Die, even if the recording quality is not of the first order. Also "Never Say Nups...", another gem. And how about "Angel Easy"? Or "Keep On Crinting"? There's a huge back catalogue to mine, and most of them are diamonds as opposed to coal.

Despite the poor sound quality, I love the album, part of the intrigue being imagining how it would sound if the sound was perfect.

And I too think 'Something Is Happening' is vastly underrated as is the whole Welsh Connection album.

In the past, I had been critical of the band that gig after gig saw the same setlist. A band with nigh on 40 years stagecraft should have been able to delve into the back catalogue and throw in some beauties. Not instead of, but to add to the new. Well, I suspect down to George, haven't they done it? What a fantastic tour. Thank you.

I saw only 2 gigs; I had only planned to see 1. I so wish I could have been in Wales.

Re "To Live For To Die", I've got the version of this that was issued as "The Honest One" which is a cleaner version of the same show.  Still far from perfect, but a more enjoyable listening experience.

Was never quite sure why Point chose the poorer quality boot to give an official release to, but who am I to.......etc, etc.

Some musings been added to my blog.  Also meant to note that although Wind Street was not as busy as Christmas, that the habit of Swansea girls to wear as little as possible short of indecency is not just a seasonal thing :rolleyes:

Yes Allan, the opening track on To Live For To Die (Spunk Rock) does sound like the band is playing under water, but to my ears at least it gets a little better further on in, such that by the time "Would The Christians Wait..." comes on it's almost listenable. However a better copy would be nice. I'll have to keep a lookout for The Honest One.

Knowing how Clive John thinks it's his favourite Man recording, I took my copy along to the Christmas gig at Sin City to see if he would sign it for me. He did - at least he started to write something, then Martin yelled at him to get his a**e up on stage and he had to go. Therefore my copy of To Live For To Die now has the word "Long" written on it. Long ago and far away maybe? I should have tried again at Milkwood Jam but left the thing at home. Ho hum.

Tickets are now available for the psychedelic coup of the century. Following our smash success with Chuck Berry on Easter Sunday, we have managed to persuade archetypal West Coast rockers JEFFERSON STARSHIP (featuring original members Paul Kanter and David Feiberg, with Donny Baldwin, Slick Aguilar, Chris Smith and Cathy Richardson) to appear for two nights on Thursday July 31st and Friday 1st August. But it's not just two repeated performances, each 3 hour performance will be different!
On Thursday July 31st they play "Surrealistic Pillow" plus a Quicksilver Messenger Service set (some members play in both bands). On Friday it's Jerry Garcia's birth-date and Jefferson Starship will play an exclusive tribute to the Grateful Dead plus the complete album, 'Blows Against The Empire'. Groovy, man! On stage from 8.30pm both nights.
