DVD regions

I checked out a DVD I fancied today but could only find one that was a Region 1, North America jobby.
I no longer have a DVD player as such and use a PS3.  Anyone know if the regions apply to that machine?

Yes, they do.

Check out Richer Sounds - all of the DVD players they sell are set as region free, I think
