The Welsh Connection mag

I have 5 of the 24 issues that came out.  Are there 19 people out there who would copy one issue each of the ones I don't have for me?  I'll cover all costs.  The ones I've got are 3, 5, 17, 20, 21.  If anyone can help - maybe best to contact me at paul@nicholas187.freeserve.co.uk?

I have all the more recent newsletters.

Thanks to anyone who can help out.

Cheers

Paul

Does anyone have the original Man Fan Club newsletters that came out sporadically in around 1974? I found the first year's exciting communiques in my attic last year, all signed by someon called Mac I think. Lost them again almost immediately in a house move, but I'm sure they'll turn up again. As far as I remember, it was mostly very idle chit chat, but I was probably being snooty, at that age when fan clubs were things David Cassidy fans joined, not serious rock fans like me. I should dig them out again and share them with the forum, I suppose.

I'm pretty sure we'll be able to sort something out.

Have you tapped up Michael Heatley to see if he has any of his back-issue stock left?
Boldly going.......

Yeah - I've had the back issues that Michael H had available.  Those original Man Fan Club newsletters sound interesting too.

The old Fan Club stuff is in storage about two hundred miles away! But next time I'm there I'll try to remember to dig it out. It's about all I have left from the pre-1983 days - much of my manorabilia was pinned to my bedroom walls, and my mum decided to redecorate one year when I was on the road and simply threw it all away! Things have been strained between us ever since ...

Oric, Not quite Man related, had a similar thing happen to me, got married, didn't really want to leave home but my father insisted on it. Left my collection of Oz and Mad magazines in my wardrode, my mother in an effort to declutter the house after they eventually managed to get rid of me, threw the lot in the bin......have you seen the prices of Oz magazines on ebay.... I've lost a fortune. All in the name of tidiness.

Oric, Forgot to say if you can dig that old Man stuff out it would be interesting to have an account of it.

My mum did that to me once, but it except for one issue of Rave, the rest wasn't valuable. A few years later my parents opened an antique shop. Then they realized why I was so upset. (I was more upset when she wouldn't let us go to SF to see Cream at the Fillmore) They made it up to me by replacing some toys they had sold off when I moved out. I've foolishly sold off plenty of "rare records"... too bad they weren't anything I liked

Ron S, At least your parents tried to make it up to you, mine just considered my stuff as teenage trash. As for going to concerts, your parents were obviously doing the responsible parent bit.
Not saying my parents were irresponsible but they did allow me to go to the Isle of Wight festival in 69 when I was just seventeen, most seventeen year olds these days have to have their hand held just to cross the road. Guess they were glad to get rid of me, a bit of respite from my teenage tantrums. Did enjoy the experience though... The days of the proper festivals.... when the music mattered.

I made my Mum queue in the rain outside the Apollo in Glasgow for tickets for Deep Purple's Burn tour and the last night of the first ever Bad Company tour, so actually when I think about it we're even!

Actually there was no good reason to not let us go see Cream. We'd been to see the Yardbirds a few months earlier. My dad just said "sorry boys, no changing her mind today". They let us go see the Stones at Atlamont, when I was just 17.  Years later my dad was very sorry they made us toss out a large comic book collection. They weren't in any shape to sell, but it was just the idea... My dad was still looking for the box of baseball and football cards right up to his passing. My brother claimed he had them, but has never turned them up... he's not the collector like I am. Couldn't trust my brother with my records, his records, any records!

one time me and marin were at the bread and puppet festival in vermont(discontinued),i was 21.we were up late about to play at a campfire with drummers;he had a sax and i had a guitar with a battery amp.it was cold. he gave me a jacket to wear that he had found in the trash,it turned out to be a hippie jacket along the lines of magical mystery tour.i invented a new way to play the guitar(to me anyway) by tapping and hitting on the back of the neck in different rhythms and letting it ring with a chord that i found that night that i slid up and down the neck.i was high for a week after i got home...a few years later i was in school in new york, the jacket was a little tattered but loved.my mom threw it away.oh the pain....then there was a piano at our house.i put a tambourine under the foot pedal and made up a song using the lower keys and upper keys(black and white).the tambourine fit perfectly on this particular piano. it bounced right in rhythms under  the back and front of my foot...years later i brought it to new york, then a harrowing trip back to mass. with some lacklustre, fly by night pseudo piano movers who couldn't get it in the house.we had to hire someone else the next day.a few weeks later my mom junked this piano too, relations were strained...well it's all ok now,but i miss  the jacket and the piano and my mom-peace  p.s. sorry for the lateness in this post(i joined late) and the fact that i haven't figured out how to insert quotes yet,my computer skills are sorely lacking,i hope to improve over time-davey

I reckon somebody must have slipped your Mum an advance disc of Music From Big Pink at a party, told her it was going to be huge and, out of maternal decency, she figured it would be wrong to stand by and see you boys spending your money on Cream tickets, knowing that it would be considered obsolete old hat at any given moment...
