One of the things I like about this site is that I get to display my ignorance on a regular basis. It's a sort of therapy. Anyway....I can't see any of the pics that Brad and Brian refer to. What's worse, I really want to. I've tried hovering my mouse, pressing buttons, defragmenting my typewriter and calling the Samaritans. Who would like to be my knight in shining armour?

I treated myself to a couple of affordable vintage guitars recently - both Harmony 335-type semis. I'll send you a couple of pics directly as I don't know how to paste them into a forum post - unless someone explains how.

I treated myself to a couple of affordable vintage guitars recently - both Harmony 335-type semis. I'll send you a couple of pics directly as I don't know how to paste them into a forum post - unless someone explains how.

I think it's a case of a different amp for a different guitar.  The SG sounds great with the Fender Twin,  And the Strat works great with The Marshall.  The S.G. with the marshall is great for heavier songs like sudden Life and Shit on the world.  But it's like a bull in China shop!  I got a line selector so I can switch between amps.

I still have all of Micky's old rigs.  The Vox from the early 60's, The Fender Twin, The Peavey and The Marshall.  I believe he used an Ampeg in the late 70's.  I have no Idea what became of this.

Talking to Phil Ryan the other day...he told me that Micky never used overdrive, he Just drived the Twins hard (he blew a lot of speakers) and used the Electroharmonix wah as a boost for solo's.

The rest as we know is all in the fingers!!!!

You never see those old Ampeg guitar combos much now - I think they were called the V4. A mate of mine has one of those blue-cloth Ampeg combos but they are much earlier and quite low powered. Curiously they have two inputs - one marked guitar and the other accordian. I guess Ampeg were aiming at the Tex-Mex market!

Interesting that you've still got the Vox rig. The stuff looks fantastic on the old Beat Club footage, hardly a square inch of backline space not taken up by a Vox head or cab! Usually for Beat Club performances they had just one lot of gear that everybody used (or mimed to for some performances) - I think from memory that on the footage of Free they seem to be using Juicy Lucy's gear - but Martin told me that the Vox backline actually belonged to the band - he said because Vox were falling a little out of favour by 1970 they got a really good deal on the lot.

Both the old Twin and The Fender are both beyond repair. Too many years kept in a damp shed.  The only amps I could save we're a lovely 12 watt fender Princeton, The Peavey and The Marshall which was working at %25 of it's potential, when I got the Marshall back I couldn't get used to it's power, I was used to it being on it's last legs!
