The new Rare Record Price Guide from Record Collector
« on: September 29, 2008, 09:04:29 PM »
For a magazine with the potential to be the one stop reference it is so frustrating to see the same errors appearing in every issue of this "bible" (hah!)
I sent a list of about 20 errors after the last issue and not a single one has been rectified. The really annoying thing as that some of these errors could have been avoided if they checked their own back issues.
This time, after checking my own collection only, I have come up with 30 errors.
I know it is a massive undertaking but if they can't be arsed to listen to the collector, the geek who pays their wages, then the authority they bestow upon themselves is suspect.

Record Collector went to shit about seven years ago - about the time it got glossier, more like a copy of Q, less like a Record Collector.

In my teens I used to count off the days until the next issue came out (and the Man feature co-incided with my having just discovered them) but no more.

Fairly true.
It has been good to see stuff in colour but there is far too much from the likes of Barry "Let me try and push you out of the way at record fairs because I have a high opinion of myself" Winton and his self serving articles (apologies if anyone is his friend).
Usually the best part is the letters from fanatics correcting the discographies and these were omitted from this month's issue.
If they got their act together they could construct the best online site for definitive, illustrated and updatable discographies in the world for record collectors. That is supposed to be their raison d'?tre.
And that would mean complete listings, including promotional issues, mis-pressings etc. Stuff (some) collectors live and breathe for.

Is that the same guy as Barry "I once wrote the sleeve notes to a crap Vertgo compilation and am therefore a prog expert" Winton?

He certainly had something going with Decca. "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" was on Decca and he signed Genesis up to that label too.

Well Unky Bill you have me bang to rights there. I fitted it in between job searching and teaching myself Access and VB for Excel.
But, even if I was working I would consider it a sacrifice that just had to be done. Iconoclasts arise and smash eerrrmmm icons I suppose.
