The Police etc are in a no-win position here, but let's wait and see if they shoot any innocent Brazillians in the coming months.

Hope you enjoy it. I do think ladies footy has come on a bit, and it will be good. Saw Eng v France a few years ago and it was awful. Biggest difference besides the usually mentioned strength and speed was the goalies. Comical. I have been instrumental in setting up ladies teams and in my other life, actively encourage young girls to play the game. When very young, they're better than the boys, but then the boys eventually mature (some longer than others before AH says it ;)  ), and overtake them. Rover, I'd love to hear what you think of the match.

Do I assume the GB women's footie team strip is extremely skimpy?

Heard someone say the Olympics has lost its soul. Couldn't agree more. Stinks of commercialism, whether it's G4S's smarmy CE not delivering yet demanding £58m or whatever, to unsavoury sponsors, to pro footballer's who won't give a stuff about the olympic ideal. Or am I just a grumpy git?

Oh yes!! Alex Harvey's faithhealer just come on Planet Rock. Feeling better now  :)

On account of the fact I couldn't give a feck, I've only just found out that the bicycle element of the Olympics will be passing a bit too close for comfort. This would also explain why there's entire families joining in by kitting themselves out in top of the range dayglo lycra gear riding bikes with 3000 gears to get to Safebury's by pavement. Should they need to use a road, they can always just ignore the red traffic lights/zebra crossings/The Highway Code in general. Plonk a bycycle helmet on their head and it looks like a swarm of psychadelic terrapins. The (motor) bike contingent, a far more worthy bunch who regularly congregate around the Box Hill area of a Sunday, are having a good laugh. The best I can do is lock myself in until it's over. And why is the Olympic Logo a picture of Lisa Simpson giving a bloke a blow job?

Or am I just a grumpy git?

Possibly, but you're not the only one.

God no, you're like the laughing bloody policeman compared to how I feel about the whole thing.

Good to know I'm out of the country just as North Korea are about to send nuclear weapons in our direction!!

And before the North Korea f*ck up that blonde who presents sports on radio 5 at 19:00 says "England's women have won".
Yay! Go Team GB! We feel so included in the home counties self-important money black hole.
And now they've called a Welsh player English!!! And it hasn't even officially started.
To think I used to look forward to the Olympics.
Rob is right about commercialism. The athletes might be chuffed to represent their country but their eyes will be on the main prizes of endorsements, cushy commentating jobs and a knighthood.
Bah!

Was it that Ennis (sp?) woman amateur running athletic woman person who's picking up £1,000,000 in sponsorship?

Spot on. Also I feel sorry for all those poor buggers who've had to shut up shop because they're not selling Mc Shite burgers.
Having only 4 telly channels, 2 of which will be olympified, I shall have 17 days to go through the old record collection. So all's well that ends well as they say....

Apparently, the opening ceremony was an enormous success. In case you weren't aware, Danny Boyle is a loyal Shaker. I bet you feel all the better for knowing that.

I watched some archery this morning. Not the most riveting of sports to watch, but for me, that's what the olympics are about. A minority sport, amateur competitors, unsung heroes, getting their one chance every 4 years to strive for perfection and get the recognition they deserve. Not spoilt, pampered pro footballers and pro tennis players, for whom this is just another opportunity to make a quick buck.

I did archery some time ago at Centre Parcs. It's just darts without the beer.   :)
