Fish

Just bought the new Fish album "A Feast Of Consequences". I hadn't heard him for some years, but as he is appearing at Leamington Spa in November I thought I'd check him out. It's very good indeed.Great sound and production.Long sprawling songs that ebb and flow played by a fine band. You can hear samples and buy the album only on his website. Go check it out.It should appeal to many visitors to the Manband Archive.

I'll see your Fish album and raise you a 'March of Ghosts' by Norwegian prog' band Gazpacho. Should warn however that if your music has to have 'balls' this may not suit. It has its gutsy moments but is predominantly mellow...a real 'pipe and slippers' experience, with liberal use of strings giving it an orchestral aspect in places. After a few spins however I personally find it a very enjoyable listen. Incidentally, that Sanguiine Hum album I mentioned a while back is worth investigating too. It's continuing to grow on me, and in retrospect I withdraw my original reservatiions re' the vocals. Loved CBP's Posnan double by the way. Plenty of 'balls' in that performance...and I will deifinitely check out the new Fish album.

He played a very odd gig in Lima when we lived in Peru.
Lots of teenagers who sang every word.
Cant say my memories were that clear. Remember Santana played the following week whic I think was amazing.

I would recommend catching Mr Fish live at a club near you this year.  I saw his Feast of Consequences show in Paris last week and it was a blinder.    The guitarist Robin Boult was phenomenal and easily made up for some of Fish's cringing sixth form prose.  It's a great cd and live show and highly recommended; have already got my tickets for his gig at the Globe in Cardiff.

Acquired taste I think! Earlier album Tick Tock a bit more accessible.
Just got the Fish album!
PS. Have you checked out the Cosmograf (Robin Armstrong) album 'Man They Left In Space' with the two BBT guys guesting (Nick D'Virgilio and Greg Spawton). Also nice stuff.

I think that counts as a "whoosh" moment.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gazpacho)

Haven't heard the Cosmograf album - will check out to see if it's on Spotify.

Oh for F***'s sake!
Of course I got the pun...just assumed it was Alan's clever way of offering a verdict on the music as well.

You should know by now that I don't do clever ;-)

I will confess however that the 'Whoosh!' comment did initially...go right over my head!
I am embarrassed by the way, that Rob seems to afford us even remotely mutual authority in the area of musical knowledge. I am in no doubt that you have forgotten more than I have yet learned.  'Pebble v Colossus'...would probably be a fairer analogy.

The unthinkable has happened. Akko and I are not quite in accord on this one.
Have given 'Feast Of Consequences' every chance...but after several spins can find very little to commend it. Quite like 'The Other Side of Me,' but the rest is, I find, a fairly tuneless dirge...and I'm sure that for most of The High Wood sequence he's plagiarised at least a couple of popular folk tunes (couldn't tell you what they are - just know I've heard them before). Just shows that no two listeners hear quite the same thing, but it doesn't alter the 'hero' status of the man who alerted me to Crippled Black Phoenix and the truly wondrous Riverside!

If you can ever get to see Riverside, do! I saw them at their first ever gig in this country at Lydney Town Hall (Where they hold The Summers End Festival) and they were brilliant and I saw them also at The Robin 2 with the truly sublime band that are The Pineapple Thief  :)
