Intro's
« on: November 30, 2013, 03:44:34 AM »
Been listening to, and watching a bit of slide guitar recently....., but I still don't think I've ever heard a better intro to a song than Deke's  blast into RATV. Terry's 'Money for nothing' was good, and of course drums, but watching and listening to Deke's slide into RATV in May 85 will remain one of my all time favourite musical experiences.

Powerful stuff alright....Was watching the seasick fella last night which got me thinking about it....and which joyous anarchy led to an exuberant post in the wrong section....
Do hope all known and unknown to us are well in Glasgow....

There's not many music fans in Glasgow haven't been in the Clutha Vaults at least once so the tragedy has hit the city hard.

I recognise the missing father that got a bit of publicity in yesterday's coverage - think he was one of the regulars at many of the gigs I go to.  Another face you're not able to put a name to.

Just finished a national tour. Awesome live.

I have both albums c/of a former colleague who is very conveniently dating the bass player! Haven't seen them yet, but they're regulars locally so should rectify that soon. Willie's vocals are a bit of an issue for me, but may be a different matter 'live' with any luck. For great slide guitar I would also recommend Eric Sardinas.

Just discovered that a friend of mine is amongst those not accounted for in the Clutha.

Absolutely devastated - Robert was a lovely man who'd lost his wife to cancer about seven years ago but who had rebuilt his life and had a grand relationship with a woman who he'd been seeing for the past three years.

Had just made an arrangement with them last week to go see The Zombies in February.

I think the names are going to be confirmed at some point today - it's just four names left to confirm.

Tragic. If this is confirmed then you have my heartfelt condolences. You're right of course about the Clutha Vaults being on the "must go" list; I used to get up to Glasgow for a couple of days every month (sales meetings - zzzzz) around 13 years ago and always looked forward to a few drinks there while watching a band. Always a friendly crowd there. I was once engaged in a conversation with one of the regulars by his opening line "English, are ye?". When I said "No, Welsh", he said "Ah, thank Christ for that" and we had this long and rambling conversation about all manner of stuff, none of which I can remember. A great place. A band I do remember seeing there was The Blues Poets, which I believe contained some members of the original 1960s Poets, and who tore up the place in the manner of The Tremblin' Knees. One song ended in complete disarray, and the vocalist said "That was shite, we'll do it again properly", and they reprised the last few bars faultlessly.

Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.
