Pete T, you lucky bastard, you really have it all. I think I played Scourie Village Hall once with 7:84 Theatre Company back in the early 80s. I was standing outside the hall, in the crisp midwinter, having a fag, and I ooked up and there were the Northern Lights - first time I'd ever seen them. What a place to live. (Or was that somewhere else beginning with S, on the north coast? Skerray perhaps. All good anyway up there.)
I think it was the Buddha beat me to it on the "Nothing is permanent" thing - snappy little phrase, though, wish I'd thought of it. Am I right, Uncle Bill?
Tell you what, it's a bit like the blitz this, isn't it? All of us huddled here chatting whikle the bad news goes off all around us, waiting for the all-clear, waiting for the good news to sound. Cuppa tea and a dried egg sponge cake, anyone?
Rob W, is that hotel near Bishop Auckland? If so, I stayed there once myself for a bit of a pamper, very nice indeed. You deserve it, by the sound of things.
