Sad, I know, but I've noticed that the number of posts that we have been making is not incresing e.g I'm stuck on 22. What's happening? How can I ever rid myself of the accursed Newbie label if they don't increase? Please ignore the rising note of panic and hysteria in my voice

You need to relax, Buddha Bill! Stick on some nice slow Glen Miller, picture yourself gliding across the dance floor like John Sargeant, and let your cares float away on a sea of VAT cuts and unsold property brochures. Remember, nothing is permanent, not even postings totals and certainly not Man line-ups. Now b-r-e-a-t-h-e.

And in answer to your elsewhere question, not so much bored as putting off getting on with things like buying a new flat.

Wanna buy my flat?  months on the market & only 1 viewer. Not funny.

Seen 58 flats in the last six weeks, another 15 or so to come this weekend. Not funny either. Would rather be somewhere north of the Ceilidh Place.

Oric,

Sorry, no flats in Scourie, just a school, shop with post office and cash point, village hall, fire station, 3 churches, croft houses, camp site, and hotel selling real ale (only open 5:30-8:30 winter weekdays :( )
Virgin places don't mean a thing to people who never bring their hearts along.

Well, fortunately we got a buyer, and the sale of the marital home completes a week on Friday. A week on saturday I will transform from an absolutely broke nervous wreck to a not quite as broke and not quite as much a nervous wreck. I have provisionally booked a weekend away in a hotel in Northumberland with a gym, pool, sauna and the works. On my own with no one to answer to, and just chill out. I cannot wait. Last few months have been the worst in my whole life.  Any of you chaps need a mortgage?

And was it Oric who said 'nothing is permanent'? Afraid you're wrong matey. As I often say to my lad when he occasionally does something good, I remind him of my favourite saying

"form is temporary, class is permanent"  (where I am class, obviously)   :)

Pete T, you lucky bastard, you really have it all. I think I played Scourie Village Hall once with 7:84 Theatre Company back in the early 80s. I was standing outside the hall, in the crisp midwinter, having a fag, and I ooked up and there were the Northern Lights - first time I'd ever seen them. What a place to live. (Or was that somewhere else beginning with S, on the north coast? Skerray perhaps. All good anyway up there.)

I think it was the Buddha beat me to it on the "Nothing is permanent" thing - snappy little phrase, though, wish I'd thought of it. Am I right, Uncle Bill?

Tell you what, it's a bit like the blitz this, isn't it? All of us huddled here chatting whikle the bad news goes off all around us, waiting for the all-clear, waiting for the good news to sound. Cuppa tea and a dried egg sponge cake, anyone?

Rob W, is that hotel near Bishop Auckland? If so, I stayed there once myself for a bit of a pamper, very nice indeed. You deserve it, by the sound of things.

Lucky you Rob. Me I'm still trying to do the parting of the ways and get the house sold. Nightmare having to live together in this situation-everyday is like walking on eggshells isn't it? Sadly, even if I can sell my house for the price I'm trying to I'll be extremely lucky to pay off all the money owed so I'm never going to see a mortgage ever again. The big positive is that hopefully even though materially things will be rough, I'll be free of all the other c**p  that I am  living with just now. So maybe we can understand why the Man band are going through what they are just now & in fact, lucky to be able to take a break from each other with only an album to worry about.

Thank you chaps. I really wasn't going for the sympathy vote, but blinkin' eck....I'll take it, no problem.

At risk of yakking on about me, I'll just say I've had everything thrown at me in the last 12 months including divorce, redundancy, no dosh in but loads out, setting up own business in these times etc etc etc. But always someone worse off, and we all of us have our own issues just as important to us. Next week I'll be largely debt free so I'm lucky.

And if Mr Heatley has the 2008 issues of TWC still around, I will be paying 2 lots of TWC subs, 2008 and 2009!

Oric, the hotel is in Bellingham, Kielder Forest, old RAC Rally country. Cheap weekend break - bring it on......
