And carrying on with this (sort of) theme.

What chance has a thistle , a poor lonely thistle, on its own in the middle of a football pitch, all sad and forlorn...like... got against the might of Celtic, 1967 European Cup Winners and all that?

Mind you, if we were playing the thistle, the thistle would win 1-0    >:(

An epistle for the thistle. West Bromwich Albion vs Brighton Hove Albion = 66 players on the pitch by my reckoning.
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense

..spare a thought for Inverness Caley and Inverness Thistle who merged to become ICT. 22 players became 11, but I wonder if they've got that many sometimes!!..

The Baggies would struggle to hit a ball straight even with 33 players....

Hey, Rocky. Like a sublime MJ solo, you've brought this back to where we were a long time ago. Cow's ar*es and banjo's.

Now, what was a banjo, again?

Rob, Newport was only fairly recently given City status.  A case to prove that Cities ain't what they used to be ::).  Being a County seems more appropriate :)
What? Newport a city? Strange days. Next thing you know Llanelli will get city status. Then every hamlet will want it. City of Graig Cefn Parc anyone? Strange days indeed. I rather liked Swansea as a town, sort of suited it. Then along came the Investiture of Charles Battenburg Saxe-Coburg Gotha as Prince of Wales, and all of a sudden we became a city.

Indeed, since 2002, have a look at the link.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport,_Wales

All down to Mummy Saxe etc having had a job for 50 years.  I've had mine for nearly forty years, does that mean I can have a say in granting greater Bury some sort of status?  Any status. Please ;)

0-0 tonight then Rob

Yes, Michael. 0-0 as forecast by not very mystic Rob cos you don't have to be very mystic to know we couldn't score a goal against a barn door with a banjo.
Relegation out of the football league is a distinct possibility. Brickin' it!

Rob, I know I'm not comparing like for like financially, but losing League status seems more difficult to recover from than dropping out of the premiership.  Sincere apologies if that sounds overly reasonable and a sympathetic view, even though it's meant to :)

In the unfortunate & unthinkable event Rob :'( there must be some good stats on probability and who has bounced back and who has drifted even deeper into obscurity. The trick is to come straight back asap like Shrewsbury did and not to wallow...

Blimey, forgot about Shrews. The Conference really is just a 5th division, but it is possible to plummet like Stockport and Darlo. (Plummet name recognition to Malcolm Morley just happened there).

I don't think we'll go down. 15th I reckon we'll finish. It's mighty close. Last match of season home to Pompey. Could be massive. If we go down, so what. Worse things happen

Massive week ahead. Northampton away tomorrow, Brizzle Rovers at Gigg on Tues.

Rather this than mid table nothingness. Unless we get relegated of course.

I hope I bring Shakers more luck than I did for Patrick and his Thistle. I let them down. Result aside, love it there. And proper floodlights too. Not those namby pamby under the stand things. You know you're going to a night footy match from miles away.

Mr Tuck. You don't know how many times I bring up  Scourie into conversation.

If I'm not persona non gratis, you just never know.

And Pete, you're nearer blinkin' Reykjavik than Glasgow.
