North Devon-to-Swansea ferry?

This totally non-hot topic drifted back on to my radar recently, when I was reading about the Micky Xmas Jam, and I reflected that I'd be up for checking out a fourth one, if there is one... and it would certainly help if that damn ferry starts running.  And later heard the Dime recording, prompting me to ponder the ferry question again.

There’s no forecast of a start date, www.severnlink.com informs us. So I wondered if you guys across the water have heard of anything. I'm signed up for the SevernLink news letters and so far have received zero items in around 14 months. However, I gather they've bought a craft and in 2010 they engaged a captain (Rob Hinton), so I guess it's only the beer delivery holding things up, now.

Sonic... I haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about, there. But if you want to know about "damned ferries", there's one in Scotland you should know about. Its an utter, utter b*st*rd!

Ifracombe / Swansea had various forms of ferries for many years, usually passenger only as far as I can remember.

I think The Waverly ran for years and was the only remaining steam powered paddle ship.
The whole thing was very popular but I have no idea why it died out. Perhaps everyone became too 'sophisticated.

Apologies for any inaccuracies that may be in there, but i relied on that memory thing and didn't use google ;)

What about a zip wire alternative? I suppose if they're a gravity powered mode of transport it would only work one way :D

The PS Waverley does a round-Britain tour most years, and usually pitches up in Swansea to run a couple of trips to Ilfracombe and Lundy Island. Not a ferry as such, just a pleasure cruise. MV Balmoral used to do the same thing years ago. I think there have been more regular crossings between Penarth and Minehead, and Cardiff - Weston. It's only tourist traffic though. Like you I await developments on the ferry front with interest. If it ever happens.

I was intrigued by this, their first boat was delivered on 16/12/2009, at which time the service was due to start "early next year"
They appointed their captain on 10/05/2010 but the "Latest news" was 12/07/2011, i.e. over  two and a half years ago
They must have run up a tidy bill, buying one or even two boats that size - I can only assume Devon time is even slower than Norfolk time

Update - I've now found  BBC report that they have sold the boats http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-17078200

As far back as 1933 Great Western Railway Air Services flew a daily triangular passenger service between Cardiff (Pengam Moors), Little Haldon airfield in Devon and Plymouth municipal airport, using Dragon Rapide aeroplanes ... isn't progress in the modern world a wonderful thing?

There is one and trains run through it but no ferries have passed through to my knowledge.
