By the way, a bit off topic. But does anybody think that people who retire before they reach age 60 are 'lazy bone idle good for nothing b*st*rds'?

Of course you are absolutely right.  I was made redundant at 58 and stayed that way until I was 60.  Then I retired.  Now I am a 'lazy bone idle good for nothing b*st*rd' who has to wait until 65 to get a state pension while Mrs. Dave got hers at 60, while she was still at work.  The whole bloody world is unfair...

The first track alone should be enough...

Actually, Mr Dave. Technically, you are not a 'lazy bone idle good for nothing b*st*rd' because you didn't retire before age 60.

That said, I have it on good authority, you were a 'lazy bone idle good for nothing b*st*rd'  anyway.

But isn't it a great catch 22.

The Governemnt is upping the retirement age and as of today over 1,000,000 people over retirment age are in work.

But we have a problem with "youth" unemployment and not enough jobs to go round. Is that because the Governemnt is upping the retirement age and as of today over 1,000,000 people over retirment age are in work?

Are there potentially 1,000,000 jobs that could be available for people under retirment age. Might that make a slight difference to the unemploment figures?

Just for Rob W.

Here's where you can add your vote for Riverside in Progressive Rock's 'Breakthrough' category.
http://awards.progrockmag.com/awards/breakthrough-artist

Slightly ironic nomination, given that they've been around since 2001.

Playing Manchester on Sunday coming.

I shall be there.

Unless it's very sunny and I'm off in the hills somewhere....

(By the way, revisiting this topic to post this message, and I see the above post. Hmmmmm!! Even my eyes popped out of my head. Sorry Oakers my boy. Don't know what warranted that outburst. Bu I'm sure you deserved it. You will if the gig's no good!! )   ;D

Given that I've waxed lyrical about this band several times...and love pretty much their entire output to date, nobody will be surprised to learn that I was blown away by the live performance at Islington O2 Academy on Friday. The word is certainly out on these guys! We were expecting to be in the smaller 250 capacity venue, but were in the larger 800 arena...which was already jammed solid when we rolled up at 7pm. The stallar musicians on stage are evidently pinching themselves on this score too...'makes us feel like celebrities' was the comment from lead member (bass and vocalist) Marius Dzouda. A bonus for me was being able to pick up the Reality Dream DVD for £15 (I haven't been able to find it online for less than £130 for some reason). It's a very fine production and enabled me to enjoy a second live show, plus bonus material almost amounting to a third...from the comfort of my own sofa over the weekend. Don't miss 'em if they're in your area...

I await Rob W's counter-impressions from last  night's  Manchester show (assuming he made it)...with some trepidation.

Oakers, I'm ashamed to say I didn't make it...

I was making it until about 4pm. I even did the following on Sunday morning:-

* checked the website to ensure the gig was on the day, thanks to your worrying text that I 'd got it wrong
* phoned a pal to see if he fancied going. Which he didn't, but no bother
* finally took off the Alkies CD and put on Riverside cos it's nice if you recognise a song
* came home early to tidy up, and do my washing and ironing (I'd make somebody a lovely wife)

Then I got a phone call asking me for a favour. A big favour. Which if I'd pre-purchased tickets I couldn't have done, but since I hadn't, I said "yes, of course".

Please don't think I'm a false so and so. I was going, and looking forwards to going. Mostly for the gig. But also to slaughter you on the Message Board .  Next time!!

...in which case I'll settle for a much more sympathetic follow-up (I would imagine) from Halfamix ...after tomorrow's Bristol gig.

I kinda guessed from the absence of any text to the effect, that you hadn't managed it Rob. Just hope the recipient of that favour appreciates the scale of the sacrifice you made.

(Left a perfect opening there for you...did you notice?)

The text or more to the point, phone call, will be on its way after work. Just thought I'd respond to your post. No bottling it from my side. I really am sorry didn't go.

Now if halfamix charters me a plane, will only be 30 mins to Bristol. I'll be the +1. We can go as oneandahalfamix. Or the dolly mixtures perhaps   :o

Saw Riverside in Bristol Tuesday night, now this is the third time I've seen them and to be frank I didn't enjoy them as much as I have previously! This could be because I've not got the latest album and that is what they mainly played but the support band Votum really floated my boat so am going to have to do some research into them  :)
