I know. So sad. Part of my life for so many years. Illogical I know. To quote the Bard Deke 'Why does he always take the good ones?'
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense

Why couldn't he take William Shatner instead?

I have nothing against Shatner but laughed when Rich Hall (I think) described him as looking like 60 pounds of crap poured into a 40 pound bag.

Saw Rick Wakeman last week - he tells a great story about working with William Shatner who is a great Prog Rock fan
William started a ladies underwear range, but it failed - possibly because Shatner Knickers doesn't conjure up the right image

Isn't Shatner that rock god who performed with Ben Folds? Fair play the old ham has made me laugh a lot over the years.

True Story: Met Shatner years ago when he did the official launch of the Monorail at Alton Towers. He was meant to do this together with George Takei, alias Mr Sulu - the man charged with powering up the Enterprise to Warp Factor speeds - but Takei was over half a day late because he'd forgotten to take his passport to the airport!
Shatner himself had requested a fuel stop at a M'way Services when he was being chauffeured north (to Chester initially) from H'row; and to the driver's surprise insisted on using the greasy spoon reserved for truck drivers etc., rather than the main eating area.
It still amuses me to ponder how the conversation went when the lass behind the counter got home that evening and said: "You'll never guess who I served today!"
PS. Shatner was paid £15k for his appearance at The Towers...but was upstaged by Princess Anne, who turned up with her kids and Jackie Stewart to ride the rollercoasters, and managed to commandeer the next day's national press.
