this a very sad message, but I would like to say a big thank you to Gavin and the team for what you have done for us in the past. Got a lot of MAN stuff this way.

So, THANK YOU Gavin and all the best in the future

I've read this sad news today. Everyone of us were expecting next issues, specially GWP future volumes.
Is there any way to know at least all the material that was going to be used in next volumes?
I was expecting to see the participation of Terry Williams and any new video material from the 70's.
That short piece in the volume one with Ray and Jeff in the band was worth the whole volume.
It's a PITY all this unknown material has to be lost. We don't deserve this.
Is there any way for us, the real fans, to get it? Individually, MegaUpload, Emule, Dime, eBay, Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, any way...
Please...

I've read this sad news today.

The Effigy statement in this thread has been superceded by another later one... see the thread called  NEW LIVE GREEN RAY CD - MANBAND NEWS - OTHER EFFIGY NEWS

OK, thanks, so great news again... ;D
I die to see 70's rare video material... Please don't put little pieces, put the whole videos.... ;D
And try to interview Terry Williams... And what about others like Jeff Jones?
Talking about drummers, why not Bob Richards? I don't recall seeing him being interviewed in volume one.

Joan, presumably that was because Bob wasn't part of the Man story in the period covered by GWP Vol 1. But there is plenty of him in the video diary section of course.

Just to try to answer some of these points.

Bob has been interviewed and will feature if /when we get up to 1997!
For volume 1 everybody who was in Man during that era who is still alive was asked and only one person declined to take part. That wasnt Terry, in his case circumstances dictated that it just wasnt possible for us to arrange an interview with him on the weekend we did the Swansea-based interviews. We are hopeful though that he will appear in Vol.2

Again with volume 2 everybody that was in the band between 1972-76 has been asked and the vast majority will appear. We already have interviews in the can with Deke, Micky, Phil, Ken, John, Clive and Martin and we are working on arranging interviews with the others. We also have interview footage with various others associated with the band during those years.

The issue of the music clips is a difficult one. It was probably the main criticism in the magazine reviews that there wasnt enough music. It is likely that there will be a larger music content in Vol 2 but probably not complete songs at least in the main film. There are a couple of reasons for this. With the TV clips for copyright reasons it is a lot more difficult to use full songs than clips and more costly. I also dont think full songs work in the context of a documentary, particularly with Man as the songs can be up to 20 mins long it just takes you away from the documentary for too long. Realistically if we did use full songs it would also mean leaving out a lot of the interview footage due to the constraints of how much footage you can squeeze on to a DVD before it becomes too compressed and starts to loose a lot of quality and for that matter before it simply becomes over-long.

What will probably happen is that on the second bonus disc we will include full versions of some of the songs that feature in the main film but that will probably be the contemporary stuff we've filmed and some semi-pro footage from the 90s.

My twopennyworth - it's more important to have the interviews than the music input, in this context. The GWPs are documentaries, not music videos. Of course we like live footage too; but in the same way that some people want whole songs not clips, I want whole gigs not songs!

Gavin, just being nosy: I guess the one declining to answer your questions on GWP vol. 1 must have been Jeff Jones. If this is correct, did he tell you why?

Yes it is and no he didnt. But thats ok sometimes people just dont feel comfortable being interviewed to camera. I guess in Jeffs case he was only in the band just over a year and it was a very long time ago so it is understandable.

I seem to recall Jeff Jones turning TWC away when they asked for an interview. Let's not forget that we are dealing with a man who found not being able to wash his hair with herb shampoo daily a disaster. . .
