Who sung this song?
« on: January 10, 2009, 04:50:20 PM »
This is a question I've always done to myself.
I can recognize the voices of Deke (Daughter of the fireplace, e.g), Micky (Dream away) and Martin (Manillo) of course
but I don't know how do sound other MAN voices like (Phil Ryan, John McKenzie, whoever).
Is there any site to know that? If not I have some doubts to ask you... Mainly from BGTYALOAD and TWC...
Which songs have the lead vocals by Phil Ryan, Tweke Lewis, Will Youatt, Clive John,
John McKenzie or even Malcolm Morley, if any?
I mean for example Life on the road, Don't go away, Something is happening and Love can find a way...

My opinion:

Life On the Road - Will
Don't Go Away - Will and Micky
Something Is Happening - Phil
Love Can Find A Way - Micky (?)

For other voices I'd point to:

Clive - Love Your Life
Malcolm - Thunder and Lightning Kid
Josh - Man Of Misery
George - All Alone
Pugwash - Burn My Working Clothes

For other players who haven't sung lead on record:

Jeff Jones, Ray Williams, Terry Williams, Ken Whaley, John Cippolina, John McKenzie, Bob Richards, Gareth Thorrington.

Cue debate.
Boldly going.......

Ok Jules - I reckon that was JM.

Well we definitely need a remastered re-issue to be certain. The mix on the Point CD is so muddy it hurts. ;)

There is no "mix" on the point release, it's just dubbed from someone's worn out album. Criminal!

Of all the albums, this one deserves a remix before we it gets a legal cd reissue. I suspect this album would surprise some of the doubters if it got a loving treatment.

I based my JM as vocalist vote on a vinyl; I'm not a fan of TWC as an album and don't own a CD.

Ron could have a good point for some but not I: I generally find that those acts from the late sixties still making records by 1976 are not giving their best and feel this about TWC as a perfect illustration.

Nah, great songs, really well played, but there are no drums on the album to be heard... Live, those songs smoked. Five part vocals, great guitar, guitar, synth shoot outs, and powerful drumming. Shame that All's Well is such an ordinary event. Deke once pointed out that Rob and Jeff Hooper picked the version of Spunk Rock on which nothing happens! It all sound so sterile. There must be tapes of a few shows in the vault?

Let me at it, I'll have it sounding good in no time...

i had the vinyl album, although unfortunately this summer i lost it with a bunch of other records in the early

morning somewhere in brooklyn(tragic but a life lesson).gonna get another soon(i spun some of it at a  bar

in williamsburg though before the loss).it really grew on me over time. my favorite songs are "something is

happening"(what a beautiful positive message and great guitars),the instrumental at the end of

cartoon(actually that brought tears to my eyes today while driving home from the bronx;luckily i recorded

some of it on a cassette), and the welsh connection(really gets into a great groove and i enjoy the

riffs,guitars,keys,drums,bass etc).although when i  first heard it "born with a future" didn't stand out,when i

saw it live in the roundhouse movie i was duly blown away.i do feel this album has a 70's sound to it.i had a

fun time listening to it while looking at the cover a few years back(the ambience i felt)when i first was getting

in to it,and yes i do think that is john mckenzie on vocals on his song-love,peace,and respect-davey

oops well i was just busy trying to modify my comment, which was being written at the same time as Ron S's,

but i ran out of time.just wanted to add that i enjoy the drum groove at the end of welsh connection

and that i dig the groove(it's funky) at the beginning of spunk

rock(on all's well)and when the crowd cheers when they come in with the main riff(but since i haven't heard any

of the other versions i of course defer in this matter)-love,peace and respect-davey

Good idea. 'Welsh Connection/All's Well' masters to Mr Sanchez. He is not the sort to put a wet towel on the cymbals.

Alternatively, give them to me. I'll have them sounding......indifferent after a painfully long period.

That sounds like some "consultants" I have dealt with in the past....

Noooooooo! I don't believe it. Cardiff have conceded a goal in the last minutes again! Do they walk off when they think they've done enough leaving the goal open?
