Now, now, Michael, don't knock the Dagenham Roundhouse. The Village Blues Club ran from March '69 to November '75, the opening 8 acts were:-
Blodwyn Pig, Led Zeppelin, Terry Reid (supported by Sam Apple Pie), Taste (with Rory Gallagher), Spooky Tooth, Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack and Fairport Convention
Other acts included Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Howling Wolf, Soft Machine, Free, Soft Machine, Yes, The Velvet Underground, Hawkwind, Genesis .... not bad for a pub anywhere, let alone in Dagenham
The main hall, claimed to be "The Biggest Bingo club in Essex", was a low ceilinged box - so low that Man couldn't erect their Genie towers, so their concert in August 74 was lit by two white follow spots.
Man played 5 times between August 72 and August 74, including the incident of Ryan setting fire to the Melody Maker featuring Micky on the cover - leading to another line-up change.
The club closed due to noise problems and the hall became an Evangelical Gospel Hall - so, little change from the days of us yelling "Out, Demons Out!" along with Edgar Broughton
