it was a very clean programme about a very sensible place, not much about the long hair greatcoat brigade of the early 70s.

I am not sure that the roundhouse in the programme is the one that I went to.

Now, now, Michael, don't knock the Dagenham Roundhouse.   The Village Blues Club ran from March '69 to November '75, the opening 8 acts were:-
Blodwyn Pig, Led Zeppelin, Terry Reid (supported by Sam Apple Pie), Taste (with Rory Gallagher), Spooky Tooth, Savoy Brown, Chicken Shack and Fairport Convention
Other acts included Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Howling Wolf, Soft Machine, Free, Soft Machine, Yes, The Velvet Underground, Hawkwind, Genesis .... not bad for a pub anywhere, let alone in Dagenham

The main hall, claimed to be "The Biggest Bingo club in Essex", was a low ceilinged box - so low that Man couldn't erect their Genie towers, so their concert in August 74 was lit by two white follow spots.
Man played 5 times between August 72 and August 74, including the incident of Ryan setting fire to the Melody Maker featuring Micky on the cover - leading to another line-up change.
The club closed due to noise problems and the hall became an Evangelical Gospel Hall - so, little change from the days of us yelling "Out, Demons Out!" along with Edgar Broughton

Ok, other than Man, who is the best group you've seen at The original Roundhouse during the 70s?

I'd vote for Canned Heat during the Harvey Mandel era.

Nick, I've never even seen Man at the original Roundhouse. But I have had my photo taken outside it  :)

Same applies here too Rob.  Never got to see Man or any other band at the  Roundhouse but had a photo taken a few years ago outside!

That was when Canned Heat were supported by Upp and Sam Apple Pie..saw Man ,Hawkwind the Fairies more times than I can recall.Apart from loving every note and second of the Maximum Darkness gigs there I saw Hot Tuna just shortly after their Knebworth appearance...and they were wonderful. Must have been around the Double Dose era. Part electric  part acoustic.Huge fan of Jorma's acoustic stuff with Jack.

No Mr Trails, it was 1975, Mandel's brief second spell. Can't remember who was supporting.

i think a fair few of us were at that Hot Tuna gig in 76. It was too loud and too heavy metal for me, having been brought up on the subtlety of Burgers and Phosphorescent Rat. j

In all honesty I have no idea what year it was when we went....just recall the bands.
