Popped out for a swift half pint to a pub recommended to us. A proper pub, real ales and friendly people. No juke box, no TV. Got there, and exactly as was stated on the tin. Got us two lovely stouts, we sat down, chatting with the bloke next to us whoever he was, and then we see a bloke putting a poster on the wall announcing 'Laurel & Hardy Show tonight 8pm'. Well, we had to see that. A separate room, went in. It was only the local branch (they call it a tent apparently) of the Laurel & Hardy Appreciation Society'. 20 people , some in bowler hats, none were geeky though, head bloke introduced us as newbies, first 10 minutes you toast anyone from the entertainment industry who died within last month (Leonard Cohen & Greg Lake got a mention as did Gary Sprake ex Leeds keeper who was entertaining if you supported the opposition), so after 10 minutes you could be well on the way to getting p*ss*d, then a Laurel & hardy film.
What a great night, even without the L&H it was a mega place. Reminded me of the Pantygwyder (sp) when Micky was playing there. Will definitely be there again, hopefully not dosed up on tablets that are so strong they very nearly kill you and when I can drink properly. Was not really supposed to have even a half. Shhhhh!!!
Real pubs....Real beer.... can't beat it
