Iceberg LP by Deke Leonard - spanish edition
« on: February 03, 2009, 06:53:30 PM »
I will scan this edition for you to take a look, it's funny to see the translation of the name of the songs
and to see for example "7171-551" is here called "2138920716".  ???
I'm working right now (or something similar), I will try to scan the sleeve tomorrow. I don't know if it's very rare or not but it's just funny.

This is probably based on Michael Nesmith's bank balance once he inherited his mother's wealth  ;)

Did you know Mike Nesmith's Mum invented Tippex?

I've got a feeling the 7171 renumbering explanation was given in a past TWC. Personally, I'm all for the Japanese translation of 'Bananas', this from Tim W's fine site: http://www.manband.co.uk/misc/japlyrics.htm

...although I tend not to have too much doubt....
Nationsounds - the label that brought you Shake The Nation and raised £1,500 in memory of Micky...

I'm sure my Iceberg vinyl had that other number somewhere, perhaps on the label? And that copy was from Glasgow! It's in deep storage at the moment, but one day I'll dig it out and confirm (unless some other Manorak beats me to it.)

I remember seeing a book titled 'The Worst Lyrics of all Time' I should have bought as a bit of Man memorabillia.
In it were the words to 'Bananas' I always thought they were quite good but what do I know.
At a live concert, hand on heart, if they sung the Japanese lyrics would anyone really have noticed. I don't think I would have. Mind you with the normal Man concert you arrive early to get a decent seat, then hear they are in a traffic jam somewhere, they arrive and take an age to set up, your carefully laid plans to have a few pints before the concert are out the window. I'm usually three sheets to the wind before the music even starts as people I meet up with can testify.

The first UK pressing of Iceberg did indeed have 2138920716 on the label. It also had the catalogue number UAS 29464 which was changed to UAG when the number error was spotted. I have no idea how many of the first pressing made it to the shops. I haven't seen a UK sleeve with 2138.... or UAS on it.

Check out the discography for which countries have the 2138.... number.

The information regarding the phone number was from Deke.
