Double Bills
« on: October 09, 2017, 05:44:39 PM »
Inspired by my post in Tom Petty section. What was your best double bill? Only two bands allowed! My second best was The Boomtown Rats supported by Blondie! Apologies if this has been done before!
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense

Deep Purple supported by Nazareth at Coventry Theatre in 1973 sticks in my memory. Probably because my ears were hissing all the next day at school.

Man supported by Alkatraz. And from very early days, Groundhogs supported by Yes!
Nationsounds - the label that brought you Shake The Nation and raised £1,500 in memory of Micky...

Joe Cocker with Stevie Ray Vaughan opening.  Open air concert at The Gorge at George, up-state Washington.  The most fantastic venue in a natural amphitheatre with two bands at the top of their game.

I have a couple from back when the Dead Sea was only sick.

Golden Earring and Lynyrd Skynrd
LS's first UK tour in 1974 and it was great. I seem to recall it was a swap tour - Earring headlined in Europe and LS were the headliners when it got to the US.

One from slightly earlier was Status Quo and Ellis. (Sometime in late 1972 maybe 1973)
As a lifelong Quo fan this was the first time I had seen them live but Ellis were fantastic and I still have both of their albums.

(Plus the legendary Mott The Hoople & Queen tour in 1973 - but everybody I knew claimed they were there once Queen became big).

Around about 1973 , Matrix club Coventry, I saw Stray supported by Supertramp. Well, Supertramp were pants. Who made all the money?  Not the best double bill, but Del Bromham is still doing the biz now.

On a roll now. 1977/ 78 maybe. Blondie supported by XTC at Coventry Tiffanys. Debbie Harry  on debut in England in a very very short skirt . XTC  may have been good  but not as good looking.
