The Diary of a Football Fan
« on: August 15, 2018, 06:34:40 PM »
Talking about last week, here.

One young Bury fan. On holiday last week in Italy. Flying back on the Friday. Will be going to MK Dons away the following day. Easy.

But flying with Ryannair. Friday arrives, flight delayed, delayed further,  eventually cancelled. Will miss the match!

Does his research, hires a car, goes to another Italian airport 4 hours away, flies to Paris, gets the train from Paris to London, then from London to MK. Gets in the away end 15mins before kick off.

And then Bury go and lose 1-0 with MK scoring in the 93rd minute. Worst possible way to lose  ;D

And something similar on Tuesday. Without the cancelled flights.

Away at Weston Super Mare - record shop, chips, queue at Bar. Tiny ground over 1000 Torquay fans 400 home fans. New manager gives us hope. Billericay at home today - 'I'm not a bleedin' thicky etc etc'
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense

Echoing another feed.  Games you have walked out from - for me it was at today's poor showing by Hampton & Richmond vs. Oxford City.  A gutless 0-3 down by half time with a first round FA Cup tie vs. Oldham next week on the telly - I fear for them!  Watching the rugby in the nearby pub was a much better alternative.  As one disgruntled fan was heard to say, "You might be called The Beavers but you don't have to play like c***'s."

Torquay United are undergoing something of a renaissance in recent weeks after 5or 6 years of abject misery. They are undefeated after sacking Gary Owers and appointing Gary Johnson on £2k a week allegedly. Anyway he has spoken to Lee - his son who is Manager of Bristol City and we have several of their hotshot youngsters on loan and they are on fire. Went to the away game at Weston Super Mare where over 1000 Torquay fans turned up. 3 stewards only in the ground and about 400 home fans. Great game 2 2 draw, penalty save, red card and police called. Scintillating draw with table toppers Billericay yesterday. Haven’t walked out for eight matches 😄

Well I will look forward to the visit of Torquay on 22nd Dec.  But I doubt we will raise 400 home fans!  If they are on a level with the Billericay team we could be in for another tough time.  Fortunately the pub is just 100 yards from the ground...

Dave, my dearest Dave. I used to have this conversation with Mikey M. No doubt, when I join him upstairs, probably very soon, we'll carry it on whilst watching the House Band including Deke and MJ on guitars Clive on keyboards, and Ray W on bass.

That is, there can only be one "we" when it comes to your favourite football team.
