Heading should read as it is now,
Davey I think you have more chances of catching moonbeams than buying 5 copies of this book by Deke, I have seen it for sale in America for 245 dollars on Amazon, and I dont think Michael has any copies left, as I think a few people have (begged) asked him, I dropped on this used copy by chance.

....i look forward to read this soon...

Davey, it's a good read. Even better is 'Rhinos Winos & Lunatics' in which Deke covers his period with Man and is perhaps one of the funniest books ever.

I was under the impression he was to do a third book, 'The Twang Dynasty', in which he was to write about his favourite guitarists....

It takes a lot of pluck to write a guitar joke that bad Allan!

Well tell him to get a move on. And ask him whether he was the one playing keyboards on the early 'Bananas' and 'Rockfield Jam' on the extended BGTY, I've only just noticed it. If not...who was it?

It might be Clint (given the original intention of Clint and Ryan to both play keys) but I side with you on Deke. I really should have asked him when I called him up about the "Top Gear" pieces I did for TWC.

If you look at his site, I have already posed the same question...

I had the "Rockfield Jam" and "Crawling Clearwell"  (or was it "Albatross Thing"now I've forgotten which is which) that are clearly from the same session. These came from Micky, but he never said that it was a Man recording. He just said it was him and "some friends". Now that I think about it, maybe he was just being coy. Both are very interesting pieces.. a real mystery then. If Deke doesn't remember playing on them, who can you ask. Anyone check with Terry?

It's an instrumental which features the "Breaking Up" - "Single" riff.

Just now listening... it's nearly seven minutes long. Pretty sure it's Terry on drums, the intro fill is his sound. The e.piano doesn't really suggest any of the possible players, it's very basic. Too be honest, it has the feel of Mick and a drummer, with the piano and bass overdubbed. Might just be Mick doing the bass.
I've always enjoyed these two pieces. Clearwell is a bit more rockin' than "Rockfield Jam/Albatross Thing"

I do hope someone sorts out the home demos in Micky collection. I have a few other bits, some with drum machine, all very nice. One's he had labeled "Violin Thing" and "Slow Thing" are the standouts. A vocal demo for a song called Rock And Roll should be heard too. I was surprised this didn't surface in the MJB or the early German "reunion" album.

It's an instrumental which features the "Breaking Up" - "Single" riff.

A third variant! MJ was obviously determined to use that riff, not sure why...JJ Cale had already done it better on 'Cocaine'...or is it my imagination?

I presume the one you refer as 'Albatross Thing' is the one titled 'Rockfield Jam' on the expanded BGTY.

So that's three tracks from the sessions that ultimately resulted in the BGTY band being formed...I wonder if there's more? Are they dated at all?

Sorry for my eagerness Ron, but my obsession is becoming compulsive!
