Man 2019 Autumn tour of the UK
« on: July 28, 2019, 10:57:26 AM »
Please note the change of venue for Man's show in York on Sept 12th, moved from The Crescent to The Fulford Arms.

I've purchased my tickets early, as the Fulford is a popular venue and quite 'intimate' as you might say.
Boldly going.......

London tomorrow evening?

Afraid not this time as there is clash with Pere Ubu, same night at the bush hall, and Ubu won.
Next time.

I'll be there tomorrow. I'm easy to recognize, I'll be the short fat one by the bar...

I attended the gig last night at The Stables, Milton Keynes. It's a lovely venue. I've never seen Man in a seated concert before. Given the average age of the audience perhaps a seated venue is no bad thing :) Martin said it was good to be doing a proper gig as some of the other venues on the tour were "real shitholes".
Here are some photos. There were notices & an announcement forbidding photography so these were all snatched during the last number MACBFGU.

Thanks to Mark and Nigel for the photos.

Shame there's no reviews though!
Nationsounds - the label that brought you Shake The Nation and raised £1,500 in memory of Micky...

Sorry no time to write a proper review so just some highlights.

Edgar Broughton with solo acoustic as support - interesting anecdote & song about the death of Mick Farren at a gig at the Borderline (which closed for good last August).

Speaking of the Borderline I saw Man there on their last tour in January which was sparsely attended. There were more people at the Stables but it was by no means a sell out. The Jim Marshall Auditorium seats 398 apparently & I would guess that there were about 300 in attendance.

I can't remember all they played but there were a few tracks from the new album plus old favourites. James Beck is an amazing guitarist & a worthy successor to Mickey & Deke combined. They played the Big Five of course. Maybe that should now be the Big Six as Malcolm once more took lead vocals on Ride and the View. Malcom's singing was stronger & his keyboard much more prominent in the mix than at the Borderline. He also did Venus Rising. He seems fully integrated as a band member now.

Martin explained that they wouldn't do that old thing of going off at the end & snorting  load of cocaine while waiting to do an encore so they closed with Bananas then MACBFGU.

I enjoyed it immensely & look forward to the next time. I will also look out for other gigs at the Stables it's a really lovely venue & is about 2 hours drive from home in Essex but gives me the excuse to offer a night away in a Premier Inn to my long suffering partner (who is not a fan of Man :))

A fine show to a full Earl Haig Club earlier this week. Martin did his bit about shitholes and encores. The music was superb and the ageing audience very static. At one stage I thought Martin might start calling out the bingo numbers. Great gig!!!
Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense
