Keep Safe!
« on: March 20, 2020, 04:17:44 AM »
Hi All

I hope everyone is okay in these worrying times.

If anybody is in isolation or lockdown then perhaps some music, TV or Film recommendations could be posted here.

So - for a start, look out for Mick Fleetwood and friends - A Celebration Of Peter Green. A concert at the London Palladium on 24th February 2020. There is some audience footage on You Tube but a full documentary in the works.
Honorable mention to Fleetwood Mac original, Jeremy Spencer's slide solo on the Sky Is Crying - "Once a blues man, always a blues man".

Stay safe and keep listening to great Music.

If I may suggest for you Facebook people, go to James Oliver (no, not Jamie Oliver) and view his q&a session. Man references include the lp cover of Revelation and his playing a few licks from Bananas, 7171 ((sort of), Ride and the View. Plays licks from Pete Green and all sorts of different styles. I'd never heard a guitar sounding like a banjo before. BB King, the list goes on. Amazing guitarist, lovely fella. Stevey Elsdon will be looking down proud.

As I mentioned on the Julie Felix thread (in General), her passing meant I dug through my collection of vinyl to locate a 1966 LP of hers and also came across an EP (what!) I had forgotten about.

I also found three albums by David (Days Of Pearly Spencer) McWilliams vinyls that I also had forgotten about and a box of 78's. (I probably have some more gems as well).

So I was wondering if anybody else had some hidden treasures that the world of Digital etc meant they had been filed under "Long Forgotten"?

Like most other people I now have a lot more time on my hands and found the Peter Green tribute show on Youtube.Certainly,I would have loved to have been there if only to see so many stars performing in 1 great show.
Highlight for me-Neil Finn doing "Man of the World"--superb.Also,Jeremy Spencer coming on and being introduced by Mick F     saying the last time I shared a stage with this man was 50 years ago--almost brought a tear to my eye   -then he plays The sky is crying    -just fantastic.
I was disappointed with the "Green Eyed Manalishi"---when I think of this tune I always think of Judas Priest at Live Aid and incredible it was--however at the Peter Green show the song sounded pretty weak and not together but I imagine if their is a DVD or whatever on the way  the final version will get cleaned up with overdubs or whatever.
I had never heard of Rick Vito before, what a fantastic guitarist ,when he is playing Black Magic Woman with the other fella--incredible.
Thanks for bringing this show to my attention Tel

Mention of Neil Finn. One of my more memorable gigs was Split Enz in 1977, at Hull University. It was their days of heavy make up and Noel designed suits, showcasing the Dizrythmia album. Great memories

AHHH Neil Finn--what a talent.I lived in NZ from 1979 until 1994.Split Enz were like the Beatles for New Zealanders.I think I saw them 8 times.""I Got You" got played to death on the radio over there. The 1st time I witnessed their show I remember Neil wore green tights on stage.I then saw Neil with NZ musicians a band called the Party Boysc in a tiny Wellington club,  where they mainly did covers from 60s bands which was fantastic.Subsequently I saw Crowded House twice.
I would have liked to have seen Fleetwood Mac with Neil .Of course after doing the Fleetwood Mac tour he presumably picked up a lot of money.

No problem, there's also a Richard Thompson "from his front room show" and he does a version of Now Be Thankful which was a Fairport single but not on an album until the remastered Full House! That was a nice surprise. I suspect if this situation continues we will get a few more of these.

Rick Vito was briefly a member of Fleetwood Mac on the Behind The Mask album (In between one of Lyndsey Buckingham's hissy fits). He left before the next album, Time where he was replaced by Dave Mason.

Neil Finn got the FM slot after Buckingham's latest hissy fit along with Mike Campbell who was Tom Petty's right hand man for years.

By the way I hear John Prine is in a bad way because of Coronavirus.

Probably happier than being locked down in a flat in Colchester. It gets to something when the highlight of the week is a trip to Asda.......

You're not on your own there. Was only saying the other day, my social life is the weekly trip to Tesco and popping into the office couple of nights a week to do a few bits and bobs. Mind you, much like normal come to think of it
