Post Lockdown
« on: November 09, 2021, 12:03:07 AM »
As bands are beginning to tour again, I just wondered which bands people have seen, post-covid - and what their thoughts were.  I have seen:
John Lydon - not a gig, but a book promo chat - very honest, especially about his wife's Alzheimer's - and led the audience in singing ABBA !
Tom Robinson, on his "first gig since 2019" and, other than a minor gremlin with the electronics "comes from storing the amp in a garage for 2 years" excellent - the lay-off has improved his vocals
Wishbone Ash - a touchy subject to some Man-fans, but "Phoenix rising" was  excellent - and Mark Abrahams has made the sound "heavier" - I missed the name of the drummer who was standing-in because Joe Crabtree had Covid, but he was also very impressive. Andy Powell's vocals also seemed better than last time I saw them - again possibly because of the lay-off - and he is 71 now

Malcolm Morley  - just a wonderful evening
Jim Cregan - Rod Stewart without the posing and band being given their head.
Martin Turner - Pilgrimage + the usual WA standards.  Well played sir.
To my shame I missed out on Focus -another regret to add to a long list.

Upcoming: Son of Man etc., Rollin Stoned and Christmas Carols...

Ok, here goes......

Man at the Half Moon, London 3rd September
Combat Rock (Clash tribute) at The Bungalow, Paisley 11th September
Steve Hackett at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall 27th September
Malcolm Morley at the Half Moon, London 3rd October
The Pineapple Thief at Saint Luke's, Glasgow 6th October
Genesis at the OVO Hydro, Glasgow 7th October
The Undertones at the O2 Academy, Glasgow 8th October
Nick Lowe at the Spiegeltent, Paisley 10th October
Andy Fairweather Low at Backstage At The Green, Kinross 12th October
The Rezillos at the Spiegeltent, Paisley 16th October
Caravan at Oran Mor, Glasgow 23rd October

On top of that I've been to about four classical concerts with the Scottish Symphony Orchestra with another bunch coming up over the next four Thursdays.

Coming up - Son Of Man, Martin Turner, Skids/Big Country and maybe a joint Who/SAHB tribute night.

And then it'll be Christmas.

Got through all that keeping clear of infection.  I do test myself regularly as a matter of course.

So,Allan, how was Genesis? How was Steve Hackett?Nick Lowe??I am in the East of France and there has been nowt much happening here gig wise since Covid.Funnily enough, the last gig I went to was in 2020 and it was a week before France went into lockdown --it was Ray Wilson presenting his own Genesis show.He doesn't tour in the UK I think. He put on a great show
