Man - More Esoteric Releases....
« on: March 13, 2009, 05:23:18 PM »
In May, Esoteric have both Revelation and 2oz of Plastic.... on their release schedule - no further details at the minute.  Hope the extras from the "And In The Beginning" set are retained with the possibility of some others being squeezed on there.

Now if they could just get the MCA albums sorted that would be fandabidozy!

Also worth noting that both the Barclay James Harvest live albums mentioned in another thread are being reissued as well (both being previously available on Eclectic)

Release date for these appears to be 25th May.

Bonus tracks appear to be as per the "And In The Beginning..." set.   Not sure if this is the same remastering or if this has been freshly done.

What we do have is the original artwork restored for the covers which may be a benefit in itself, if only to see the pale bodies of those that made up the first version of the Manband  :-\

'Revelation' looks like it has one extra bonus track to 'And In the Beginning'.  The promo blurb says: "... this Esoteric reissue has four bonus tracks including a previously unreleased extended take of Erotica".  In the track list it's labelled 'first version'.

Well done Esoteric again.

...extended take of Erotica...

Well really, Mr Pritchard. I know you're only new here, but....

Ohh! Sorry. Hopefully this will be the one without the added 'vocals'. It's a great track that I can't actually listen to because of them (well I can, but you know what I mean) because quite frankly it gets on my Hampton Wick. It's a tough world.

Failing that, get a picture of The Bystanders, stick Deke's face onto Vic's body and wonder why you are losing friends.

Now if they could just get the MCA albums sorted that would be fandabidozy!

Aha! A chance for me to be tactless and blunt when I should really shut up. Again! So let's try this....

Mark Powell - greetings. The Manboard salutes you for your efforts. However, please give the MCA stuff (and The Neutrons/Alkatraz/Clint) to Ron Sanchez to do the necessary.

Ron - ?5.

and to Mark Powell, really, I'm serious, and have the skills... lemmy remix Welsh Connection... it's seriously lacking drums... I think it would be a real Revelation to hear it spiffed up. I wouldn't mind a go at the Alls Well tapes too. There has to be a better way to present that material. Deke once told me Jeff and Rob picked a version of Spunk Rock on which nothing happens! From an otherwise satisfied customer...

Yeah, I'm sure one night they did a much jollier version with Will and Dave Edmunds. Anyway, we want the entire thing as another 3CD box set so these tricky decisions won't even have to be made!

..I'm serious, and have the skills...
Yes, and would suggest hearing 'Call Down The Moon' as evidence.
The crucial thing is that Ron knows the band and its quirks. As much as I've appreciated the Esoteric re-issues, I've noted comments like MJ being too low in the mix, that sort of stuff. Understandable in the circumstances, they have been done by someone who might not have been there at the time, might never have heard them before and won't know of the quirks. Don't get me wrong, they did a great job but someone who knows the band and its quirks will know things like there's only three MJ settings - loud, louder, and off (a rare setting). Give him that room! Deke doesn't need to be as loud as that - he plays sheet of aluminium, which just cuts through nicely! Leave them alone! They really had it sussed!

₤5 on it's way to you...
No need, I just want to hear my favourite band sounding good.

..problem with those 3 cd box's.. They don't fit on the shelf like normal CD's, and the cardboard boxes soon get tatty from the amount of playing..

Good point, Dan. Sometimes us non-entity has beens who never really were in the first place who stop then start again forget the practicalities of...anything, really. So this is what we'll do. Get Esoteric to get the rights from Harlech TV for the Roundhouse '76 footage and put the whole lot out. The original broadcast, and just the concert footage. This can then be in a DVD size case and our problem solved! So simple!

Seem to recall the cameras were only there for two nights...anyone confirm?

Ron - we would then require a 5:1 mix option!

i would like to join the beating of the drums for an expanded "all's well that end's well" esoteric release for one,(and i wouldn't complain about a "welsh connection" release for another)...

It could be fun to get the masters onto .wav files and have a remix contest (probably for one track) with the board members voting for their favourite. I'd be keen to have a go.

Well, maybe he IS the right person then!

But..is a remix the answer? Is it not just the fact that Man were in need of their 1976-1983 break a year earlier than even they realised? It wasn't the right time to be a "head"-culture band as we have discussed before.

I think TWC "is what it is" and you either like it or don't. Certainly, making it sound completely unrecognisable could easily lose it as much/more support as it might gain it new believers....

...this morning after a music party at "the church"(curious as to what you all would of thought of the bands there)in williamsburg, kathleen and i drove to the beach.we listened to the live versions of welsh connection, something is happening, and born with a future from the berkeley '76 cd to sunrise on the highway.i agree with ron s about those songs being great live...by the way then we listened to some stuff from the esoteric back into the future release and that reminds me,there is no personnel listed on it.were there more people in the studio then previously written?whose playing all the guitars?i can recognize micky jones a lot but i would like to familiarize myself with how some of the other cats sound. and does anyone off hand know the line up for "the symbol who came to dinner?"i really like that one.maybe that was some kind of new direction they could have taken instead of the rhinos group.i wonder what it would have sounded like.sounds promising, but i like where they went too...
