Last weeks we've been able to get rare videos that (some of us) thought we'd never seen.
These are:
Beat Club 1969 (with Micky, Martin, Clive, Jeff and Ray), Peter Sikh program (with Micky, Martin and Pugwash),
The two Ronnies performance (with Micky) and the 1992 Welsh Convention from Feltham Rox.
It seems good times to try to get more material so I thought it could be a good idea to write about them in this forum...
This should be the better place to try to get more material. Years are passing and everyday is harder to get any of this material. The later the harder to get them.
Reading TWC first numbers we can see an incredible list of MAN appearances on TV.
Here you have the scans of eight TWC pages with the TV archive (uploaded with the permission of the author) so you can read what I'm talking about if you don't know it:

http://webs.ono.com/joan_duarte/TWC_12_(1).jpg
http://webs.ono.com/joan_duarte/TWC_12_(2).jpg

Reading this incredible archive we can see there are some rrrrrrrrreally must have videos we should get right now.
For me, to get these two would be incredible:

Old grey whistle test BBC TV 1973, 15 minutes
"Ain't their fight" and "Life on the road"
Filmed at Golders Green Hippodrome at the same time as recording a Radio One in Oncert programme in October 1973.
Line-up: Micky Jones, Terry Williams, Phil Ryan, Will Youatt and Tweke Lewis.

"New horizons" BBC TV 1974 (approx 25 minutes)
Performed: Back into the future demo and recording plus various interviews and other footage.......there is footage of the band recording at Olympic Studios in Barnes.....there are also snatches of live footage of the band and shots of the cover photograph of the BITF album being taken at Taplow railway station in Berkshire.
Line-up: Micky Jones, Terry Williams, Phil Ryan and Will Youatt.

Apart from TWC numbers 8-9-10-12 we can read this in TWC 2 from 1991, pag 6:
The band were filmed at Brixton Academy in 1989 when they played at a Robert Calvert benefit, but this has yet to emerge.
WTF should we do to get these videos? Should the owners die without sharing them or at least selling them?
Is Mr. BBC reading this forum? Does anybody have a nephew who has a cousin of a friend who works in the BBC?

List of more-or-less official videos we can find/buy/borrow/swap/download/ask/get or watch in Youtube:
Beat Club 1969 (2:30 definitely and Brother Arnold)
Beat Club 1970-1971 (Daughter of the fireplace, Would the christians wait..., Angel easy)
DVD Rockpalast 1975
DVD Roundhouse 1976
DVD Bananas-Marquee 1983
DVD Xmas at the Patti 2004
DVD Live at the Rex 2005
DVD Live at Mounmouth festival 2006
DVD Cambridge Rock Festival 2007
DVD God walking past vol. 1

It's few video material for 40 years, don't you think? What happen with 1972/1974 and 1984/2003 eras?
If you have any of these videos I can convert them to DVD. For free.  ;D ;D ;D

Sesiwn Fawr, Dolgellau, July 2008 broadcast on S4C.

Another ManBoard member did send me a rip of the streaming video from the S4C website, but it is very low quality. A decent copy of the S4C broadcast *must* exist somewhere.

I saw the S4C broadcast on the S4C website. Maybe still there perhaps?

Well done Joan (again!)

As a Manfan (specialist subject - BGTY/BITF era) I would agree - with the Belgium show as well!

I reckon we should just add all these to The Ron List. An 8 DVD box set of every Man TV appearance would make an ideal Christmas present! Besides - I really think he is the only person who should be let anywhere near any Man (or Man related) audio processing/remixing/tweaking/recording/anything really. (?10).

Nope!
Nationsounds - the label that brought you Shake The Nation and raised £1,500 in memory of Micky...

The streaming video rip is now available for those that want it. Please note:

1. It is very poor quality.
2. The original file is a 125Mb .asf file. This is some sort of MS streaming video format. It crashes VLC if I try to play it in there, but does play for me in Windows Media Player.
3. That said, for some reason it "sticks" on the opening credits. You have to manually move the video forward into the actual show.
4. I have uploaded it to my Windows Live Public space. However, there is a limit of 50Mb on individual files, so I have had to zip it & split it into three chunks.
5. If you are not a Windows user, then I doubt that this will play for you - but I could be wrong.
6. Did I mention how crappy the quality was?

Given all of the above, if you still want this, then this is what you need to do:

1. Download the 3 file chunks - man_asf.zip, man_asf.z01, Man_asf.z02 - by following these 3 links and clicking on the 'Download' link just above the icon and saving the file to your hard disk. Save all 3 files to the same folder:

http://cid-f22587659a2861ca.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/man|_asf.zip
http://cid-f22587659a2861ca.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/man|_asf.z01
http://cid-f22587659a2861ca.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/man|_asf.z02

2. Double click on man_asf.zip, and it should open with WinZip (or whatever Zip support you have available). Extract/copy the 125Mb man.asf file.

3. Right click on man.asf and choose Play with Windows Media Player.

Any problems, then give me a shout.

Many thanks to the Manboard member who sent me the file in the first place.

None of the above reduces my desire to see a good quality version of this gig :)

Hi Mark
Thanks for the offer.
I can't open it. I double click the man_asf.zip file to decompress it and I get this message:
CRC error in man.asf
It creates the folder man_asf, but there's nothing inside... ???

Oh dear. I just downloaded the 3 files to a different computer, and it works OK - so I believe that the files up in WIndows Live are OK.

The most likely thing is that one or more of the files was corrupted during download. Do your files sizes match these:

05/04/2009  07:35        50,331,648 man_asf.z01
05/04/2009  07:35        50,331,648 man_asf.z02
05/04/2009  07:35        27,640,182 man_asf.zip

If not, try and download again.

The other possibility is that the zip utility you are using does not handle the split zips too well. I created the zip & split it usining WinZip 10.0. What Zip utility are you trying to use?

Did anyone else get this to work?

You can download a 45 day trial version of WinZip 12.0 from CNet Downloads:

I can open the split zips successfully and rebuild man.asf using WinRAR 3.51 too. I am pretty convinced that they are OK and should work.

Thanks, I've downloaded Winzip 12.0 and it works!
Now I have a video of 122 MB (128962963), with a duration of 43:34 minutes.
Man performance lasts first 21:22 minutes.
Is it correct?
The quality of the image is acceptable for me, and the sound is stereo, so thanks !  ;)

Joan - that all appears correct. Glad you got it sorted. The split zip files seem to be a bit temperamental.
