2009 Spring tour Review
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:56:57 AM »
The short MAN tour is over now and I wanna write down a few notes ...I visited two shows and I was worried a little bit about things to come (as we all were?). After these two shows I'm pleased to say that I'm very satisfied with the start of this new Manband and how Martin brought things together again. It's still great music my point of view. Most of the MAN songs have a great potential and the boys made the best out of it in this situation.A little bit more power on the guitars would do them good I think.
I was very impressed about James Beck. He did a superb job and his ''wahwah'' effects and things were way cool. He's absolutely the right boy to draw on with MAN. Josh Ace is a good songwriter to me. One of my favourites at the shows was the song ''Speak'' written and also sung by Josh. Great stuff I think, and also ''Steal The World'' by Josh was very listenable. And so is ''Russian Roulette'' followed by ''Kingdom of Noise'' aswell an very interesting new song in the list.So at this point the future also looks good.Phil Ryan is a wizard behind the keys. He could spread this a little bit more every now and then.Drums by Robran fit in as well.
About the song selection it has to be discussed I think. In Hamburg Martin said they are a progressing band and don't play much old stuff. I think to be a progessing nature is a good point of course, but some more of the old classics would do them (and the audience) good my opinion. My personal demand is to work out some kind of version of ''The Ride & the View''.  One of the greatest songs in history (and not only the MAN history) to me.
But I'm pretty sure when they have done some more rehearsals and gigs in the future there will be one or another old classic MAN song in the setlist.

To resume this all..I'm very pleased how the things worked and I'm really hoping this band will go on peacefully in the future without any trouble again. This does not mean to forget all the famous musicians of the further line ups. I only want to mention Micky & Deke here. So let these 2 names show up representative for all other members of the Manband before.

So thanks a lot to the new Manband for the great hours of music you gave to us on the latest tour. It was way cool

How about a fall tour?..I'm already waiting...

Thanks for the comments about the Man shows bobfan.
I had contemplated the Lorsh show the other night but sadly it didn't work out owing to family stuff.
I notice Phil Ryan didn't get a mention in your review, strange cos I love his keyboard work.
I can't see Man ever performing the Ride and the View cos its very much a Deke song, and Deke performs it with Iceberg.
I am sure Martin will seriously think about the shows content. However polished Man may be,I think many punters will stay away if they don't get a few more Man classics in the show.If I understand it,from the glory days of Man you are only getting "Many are Called" and "Romain" so no Bananas,no Spunk Rock,no C'mon .I am a fan of the Martin tunes like Popemobile and Man with Xray eyes but I am not sure others are

thanks campbell for your command on my review...but if you read once again, you may notice that I mentioned Phil Ryan in my review. I'm a big fan of Ryan's keyboard playing as well and so i did not forget to make that point clear. I agree with you that ''Ride and the view '' is a Deke song...but so is '' conflict of interests''...anyway..thank you for your reply..take care
