The American Sassafras

In Mannerisms II it was postulated that Jeff Jones played on the Sassafras LP released in America on H&L.

Just for a laugh a prize of the kudos of your fellow Man-iacs to the first person to spot Jeff in the band as pictured on the cover...

Is it the one on the left?
Nationsounds - the label that brought you Shake The Nation and raised £1,500 in memory of Micky...

Sorry Martin, I shouldn't jest as it is a serious matter. It's just that I'm not used to seeing Terry 'Beefy' Bennet (pictured right) without his karate kit on.

Cripes! Yes supported by BOA! Those were the days, obviously. Wonder if they had a big jam session at the end? Don't know about you, but I would be interested to hear 'Yours Is No Disgrace' with Jim Dandy on vocals and wash board....would have livened up the dreary bit in the middle no end.

Otherwise...I believe Mr Tel and I were both at the corresponding BOA/Sassafras gig at the Kursaal...not that it matters, obviously.

Talking about the Welsh Sassafras, I always rated Expecting Company as one of the best debut albums by any group. This (see picture) is the first copy of the album I managed to get hold of, I always thought it was very badly printed. It wasn't until I was updating my record collection and needed a better vinyl copy, that I realised the original release had a different coloured cover.
Then it hit me, this cover can only be viewed properly with 3D glasses, anybody got a spare set

I seen them at one of Man's concerts at the Patti Pavilion and a little later on their own at The Coal Excange in Cardiff in recent years and a little earlier (2001) at The Legends of Welsh Rock show. They were absolutely on song on all occasions, good musicianship will always prevail throughout. In fact if it hadn't been for Kimla Taz being on the Legends show (always a special place in my heart for this group) I'd say Sassafras were the best on the night.

Thoroughly enjoyed them at that Patti show

Allan, My memory is failing these days, was this an Xmas at the Patti show or was it The Man Summer Special in 2003 at the Patti, I remember you there, seems a little more recent than 2003. I have all the tickets from recent years, unlike the 70's, and there's no mention of Sassafras on any of them.

I believe I was at that Xmas gig too with my two offspring on a rare jaunt to the far south west.

I saw them also in 2002 (with original singer Terry Bennett). I was at a conference in Cardiff and saw a poster for a Sassafras/Trevor Burton Band double header gig at the Patti Pavilion, 12th July 2002.  Martin Ace was there and joined the Trevor Burton band for their encore! Sassafras were superb... They were also selling and I bought (but can't play any more) the video from the St. David's Hall gig in 2000.

I also remember meeting a Sassafras fan(atic), Mike, who had also done a video of the Man Xmas party at the Patti in 2001.

I remember also doing an interview by phone with lead guitarist Dai Rees (nice chap) which I don't think was ever printed (just found it) - has some Man related titbits if anyone's interested...
