Calling Gardeners and Botanists (Militant or Otherwise)

Probaly one for Saint -

Having a bit of a problem with very small flies accumulating within the soil of my indoor (cough) plants. Don't think they are doing any damage, they're certainly not nibbling anything, I think they rather like breeding in sumptous soil with plenty of warmth, light and moisture. Despite me squishing them (sorry, bit bloodthirsty) every time I water, they are gathering in force and beginning to take over. I think they may be planning to do their own CD.

Any suggestions?

Dear Nick

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with fungus gnats on your indoor (cough) plants. I take that it is two problems you have. The cough can be solved by getting hold of one of these Vicks Plants (http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week284.shtml). Works a wonder. For the Fungus Gnats, can I suggest a layer of sand, gravel or hemp fibers on the surface of your pots (cough twice)? You will find that the gnats won't manage to penetrate this barrier.

Hope this helps

I was going to suggest packing up your belongings and fleaing your house, might be better to follow StEvils remedy......

Is this a euphemism?

Thanks for that Saint, and for identifying the beasts in question. Mainly affects the two small plants - I suspected I had also been over-watering them and there has been a noticeable reduction since I reduced.

Is this a euphemism?

No no, Mr Allan - Euforia.
