Forum - Will this eventually replace the curent Manboard
« on: April 15, 2008, 08:30:02 AM »
Jules,

Is the intention for this to eventually replace the current Manboard? This will be a big improvement, once the changeover is made. It will make following topics easier, without having to read through the other drivel..

Hi Pete. I certainly had it in mind to replace the Manboard with this expanded Forum. The doors are open now to let everyone kick the tyres and slam the doors before deciding to buy the new vehicle. (Comments and suggestions are always welcomed)

Hopefully it won't cut down on the drivel, which is often what makes the board so much fun, but will allow people to bypass it if desired.

I've some more work to do on activating some of the feature set, and also on theming the boards (which takes time), but everyone from the board should now have their accounts set up here.

I'll be disabling the new account setup on the Manboard at the weekend. I'm thinking of switching the board off for new posts at the end of April, unless there are strenuous objections from anywhere.
Boldly going.......

Well, I've had to take precious time away from my work to add a new link to the office computer, tidy up my profile, and make sure Jules hasn't turned off the marquee tool what is this one, teletype, anything like teletubbies?

Ah so that's what happens. OK, now I'll try to think of something a bit more sensible. The picture is of my cat Spike; much more photogenic than me.

I like the flexibility the forum gives but it is a bit like mission control at NASA.

I'd certainly see this as a replacement for the Manboard rather than something to run in parallel

If possible what I would suggest is that we close off the Manboard to new postings but keep the posts in their previous state.   I think that would make more sense for anyone seeking to trawl the historical depths

Yes, I like the drivel mixed in with the pearls of wisdom. It leavens things. Where will Maurice post his gems? Where will I, for that matter? But this fancy modern forum thingy is pretty darned good too. Is there an option to view ALL posts, in a Manboard stylee, which view you could then specialise by flagging with particular strands? I don't know how these things work. But then I don't know how my telephone works either. Actually I don't know much about work at all.

On a separate subject, it looks like I'm the only person here on MSN, which is a shame, and a bit like being the only gay in the village. If there ARE any other MSNers out there, pop in for a chat why don't you.

Really only wittering on here in order to break my forum duck. Done that now.

Kind of. You could click the link that says "View the most recent posts" which is in the stats box on the Forum's home page. This lists out recent posts (as you'd expect) in descending chronological sequence.  Of course posts can be related to any topic on any board, so I'll make no claims as to the sense or otherwise that comes from reading the messages that way.

Sounds familiar.  ;D

My twopenneth worth (for what its worth) I?m in the same opinion as Allan, the drivel is ok and some of it is amusing, and you can always open a drivel page in the forum
