What is required to upload a photo?

I've just worked out how to get photos onto the pc (luddites rule) and wondered how it works here.

Hi MBB, I have no idea how these things work. By trial and error the way I get a photo onto the forum is:
1. Select the image you want to publish, maybe from your picture library, it could be from any database you have,
2. Highlight it and choose, send to email recipient,
3.Send it to yourself, this should automatically reduce the image size,
4. Then store this on your desktop,
5. When you get into the forum and choose browse as an addition to your verbal entry,
Look for the image on your desktop and attach it to your entry.

Any problems get back in touch with me, I'm not very good at explaining these things. All I know is photo's take a lot of space on the computer so its important to reduce the image before you send it. I'm sure other forum members can give you better advice, computer wise I'm still a novice. Learning more everyday.....Hope this is of some help to you........

John - thanks.

"novice"!  Come come, if you want to start a debate who's the most inept at IT stuff bring it on.  You'll find I'm better at being worse that you are ;)

The measure of success will be if the photo of my garden shed (no chainsaw, mind) appears here.  Don't hold your breath.

Hi MBB, No shed, No chainsaw, try again.
Once you master the way of doing this, you will wonder... why it appeared so difficult initially, I've been there and got the t-shirt to prove it.

Bugger - the file is too large.  Can't understand why, the shed is only a 6 x 8.

MBB,

It's a crazy world. When it comes to quality, especially with image files, the larger the size, and file, the better. Then when you want to share this with others, you have to reduce the size to something like 1 pixel by 1 pixel, otherwise it takes ages to up/download. Therefore in terms of sheds and chainsaws, there's little difference between a white cat in a snowstorm, or a black cat in a coal shed..
Personally, I'd use MS Office picture manager, and edit/compress the picture file to web page size, about 40-50 mb. Should be OK then.. Remember to save as "somethingelse.jpg", otherwise you loose that wonderful quality your 20,000,000 meg/pixel camera took in the first place..

Now we could be talking .wavs and .flacs v. mp3 here..

Dan,

See, I was with you as far as 'It's a crazy world'.

The photo was taken with a phone as recommended to me by my son.  I thought I'd get a phone to talk to people, but what do I know?!

Thanks for the advice and I shall ask the younger and more knowledgeable member of my family to have a look on Sunday.  He learned to talk at a young age, but since about 15 - 21 he's gained and retained the power of grunt!

I got tix for Macca in Cardiff and all the boy could comment on was, he's a knob, why is someone his age wearing Converse?

I don't think I ever spoke in those terms about Matt Monroe.
