The Skids
« on: March 07, 2010, 07:26:45 PM »
Through in Dunfermline last night to see The Skids on home territory for what might be their last gig......although they seemed to be enjoying themselves way too much to be serious about putting the band to bed.

They've played a limited number of gigs in the past few years with Jobson, Bill Simpson (bass player on the first two albums) and Mike Baillie on drums (who played on The Absolute Game) joined by ex-Big Country guitarist Bruce Watson on guitar along with his son Jamie on additional guitar. (Some of the playing between them was a little Ash-like!!)

Excellent evening all round with the band playing for an hour and a quarter finishing with a rousing Into The Valley, followed by about forty five minutes of encores with acoustic versions of some of their hits along with some other rarities. All topped off with a romp through TV Stars to finish things off.

Just a reminder (and a point made often and with feeling by Jobson) that Stuart Adamson was one gifted songwriter who is way short of receiving his due for his work with both The Skids and Big Country.

Allan, Big Country was one of my favourite bands in the early eighties but I never got to listen to the Skids. Hadn't Bruce Watson originally been in that band, too???

No, it was just Stuart Adamson on guitar in The Skids - well worth investigating with at least a compilation.  I'd also highly recommend most of the later Big Country album if you haven't heard them.

Nah, after The Seer, I think, I moved on to other bands. But then again you're not the first to hint at the quality of the last period of the band. Anyway, great rhythm section, great sounds, great songs. What more can one expect? I have to say that I've listened to my BC-records in a different way after I heard of Stuarts death.
