Very sad day for me too. ..as sad as a very cold evening at Watford Town Hall was happy in 1972 when I heard MJ live for the first time and found the band of my spotty teenage years.

MJ's solo on the outro of C'mon from Back ino the Future was my favourite for years and side 1 of Greasy Truckers is up there with Bob and Jerry on Dark Star and Duane and Dicky on Whippin Post, undiminished as unsurpassed twin guitar work outs. Spunk rock wins because it is grittier and more intense that the other two.

As for comparisons of playing style I see MJ as closer to Jerry G than Frank Z because there is a sweetness to both MJ's and Jerry's playing absent from Frank's.

I can only join in the condolences to George and family and say goodbye to a man who made my teenage years a lot brighter.

All the best for tomorrow George.  It'll be a difficult day but don't forget that it's fine to remember the good times with a few laughs about the stories that will no doubt be told and isn't disrespectful in the slightest.

Take care.

Same wishes from NW Scotland, George (and everyone else).

Best wishes for today George.  I'm sorry I can't be with you but you can be certain that our thoughts are with you, your family and all of Micky's friends.  As has probably been said before, remember the good times and celebrate the life.

Please accept my best wishes and sincere affection for you and your family today. Remember  the love and esteem that your father was held in and that you yourself have in our hearts. This day will pass and the rawness of emotion will mellow with time.

George - will also be thinking of you and yours today.  I'm sure Micky will get a grand send-off from those that loved him the most.

I emailed the Independent to ask them if they would publish an obituary for Micky. I have just had a reply saying they intend to do so. I will post it on here when it appears.

Excellent obituary by Pierre Perrone in today's Independent.

Nice one, Mark. PP is clearly a fan.

Being morbid, thank goodness he got in before Charlie Gillett and Alex Chilton  :o

I know is a stupid and maybe childish question but.... being thousands of miles away from you... I'd like to know how was the funeral like.
Were all old and new MAN members present? I hope at least Deke, Terry, Clive, Phil, Pugwash, Bob, Tweke and Will were there, amongst others.
