The song remains the same but this is not Man.

Nope, it was Led Zeppelin!! (had to get in there before Pete T)

Actually, it's quite ironic that Hawkwind played Leamington Spa, because that's where Mr Kilmister got his nickname. It's true. Why don't you believe me?

Good point. I was wondering about T'Pau....from the Vulcan factory perhaps?

Into the 2nd page on a specific gig in the Man Reviews section, and errrr, no review. Is this some kind of a record?

(Listening to American Mother by davey's crew for the 2nd time. Real music - lovin' it)

No, it was I wot said it. But I have the perfect excuse... I was really drunk at the time! Mind you, you'd think I could spell that band's name by now  ;D

Currently on the upload is the gig preamble and then most of C'mon. I'll give the url when it's finished oozing through my 3-miles-from-the-exchange broadband connection!

My review is in the opening post! Oh wait a minute, don't tell me: you blinked!

Gig intro & C'mon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKmVHgzns38.

Some bits of C'mon are missing from the middle, as I had to be low-key with the videoing.

It amused me that, at the end, Martin Ace waded into the murky waters of band member sackings... reminiscing about when one of the drummers, Alan Powell, was booted out of Hawkwind. I wonder if Dave Brock was in earshot!

That's on my "C'mon" clip, by the way... and I applied some compression and a high-end EQ boost to try to sharpen up that bit of the recording.

Thanks Sonic..

A sad viewing, but I guess it may have suffered from being recorded on a mobile phone, so perhaps some leeway could be given?

Not a pop at you in any way Sonic, perhaps just wishing for what was and will never be.  Or Whatever VDGG said.  Was it VDGG?  H to He who am the only one?  Nah, wasn't that one.

I s'pse you've mentioned them, but how were Hawkwind?  I saw them in a Swansea Valley festval called The Gwyl (unsurprisingly it translates as The Festival) at Ystalyfera RFC about 10 / 12 years ago.  Oh, my.  What a bemused crowd!!

;D

Now, then... this is supposed to be a review, albeit one that's heavily augmented by youtube clips... so I'll say I wasn't that impressed by C'mon. I didn't find it rough; I think I found it fairly flat and lacking in sparkle.

Many are Called, I found rather better. It had a bit of kick to it, although whether it would please Man traditionalists is quite another matter. I'll post that track probably tomorrow.

And Spunk Rock, yes I enjoyed it. You can tell by the way my camera's rhythmically bobbling around!

------------

Some other of my Leamington Spa clips:

Krankshaft (Bob Calvert collaboration band) - Lord of the Hornets (parts)
Huw Lloyd-Langton (ex-Hawkwind) - Waiting for Tomorrow (brief clip)

(This guy was in hospital six months ago, in grave danger of dying... so it was great to see him back on stage!)

Banco de Gaia (DJ mix outfit) - Spirit of the Age (clip)
Hawkwind - with a new track, Prometheus, that'll be on their new studio album released 21 June. Yay!

Thanks Sonic..

I shouldn't wonder. Perhaps there were all sorts of subtle overtones that my camera mic just missed ;D

Well, I'm not an accomplished wordsmith when it comes to doing reviews, as I daresay you've noticed on this thread!!

My review of Hawkwind two days prior is here and Leamington wasn't all that different.

Sonic, do you get this much drivel on the Hawkwind board, I might have to look at it from both sides now !!
