Sonic, do you get this much drivel on the Hawkwind board, I might have to look at it from both sides now !!

Well, we do have a similar tendency, but 'davemod', although he moderates with a light touch, does gently remonstrate when we start flying off on tangents. I think he's got us fairly well trained, now!

The HW forum was set up by the band and is HW territory, a side-branch of hawkwind.com, so they have to enforce a few basic standards. For instance, gratuitous swearing is a no-no.

---

Soon, I'm going to commence mixing down the 650 MB AVI clips of "Many are Called" - to create a WMV file that I can upload to youtube within a tolerable timeframe. The mixdown will take around 90 mins and max out my CPU (so I can't start it yet) and then the upload will take around another 90 mins.

Fecking Joni Mitchell now....

And thanks for all the clips and review, Mr Hawk - I've read and clicked and watched them all.

We're quite a civilised bunch, so we don't need much nudging really :)

The third and last of my Leamington clips is now on youtube...

Many are Called, which, in set-list terms, belongs between C'mon and Spunk Rock.

It's my usual unsteady camerawork and with bits missing, but it all adds to the charm, doesn't it? It's followed by most of the band introductions.

Actually I was thinking of Clannad with Paul Young's version...

...thanks for the flim clips Sonic hawk .that was some fancy film work...i like the fact that they shared lead guitar duties.i thought the intro to "Many are called" sounded pretty nice, and i think that's the first time i've seen this line up do C'mon...must admit i couldn't understand some of the things Martin was saying in the in-between song banter. i tried but i couldn't make out the words. is there a possibility of a transcript? can anyone help? by the way how many people were in attendance? was that mentioned already? it sounded like a good size crowd from the audience response-Davey... we now take you back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Thanx; I enjoy getting clips but the handheld quality is directly proportional to my beer intake. My Falmouth 2009 work is pretty horrendous. I was pacing myself at Leamington, and was only half-pissed for Man!

A transcript? Anyone fancy doing that? I assume you mean the bit where he's going on about Alan Powell, and I wouldn't mind reading that, if anyone wants to give it a go.

Attendance... well, the evening crowd was around 1000 but, at 6pm (when Man kicked off) a lot of people were at the bar or outside the venue, at the pub over the road, or just chatting elsewhere. Rough guess, I'd say 400-500. You can see I switched sides for Spunk Rock, to film from front left, and it wasn't particularly difficult.

Also, the shots I got from rear centre were when I was on my way back from the loo or bar, and I had no difficulty reclaiming my vantage point at the front after.

Man did tour with Hawkwind in France, there has never been much published about this, unless it's in Hawkwind released material.

Thanks for the transcript, Nick! I'd missed the quip about Herbie Hancock tapes, as I'm rubbish at discerning words through a PA.

Well, I've never seen anything about it. This would have been June 1975, shortly after Lemmy got detained in Canada. (Starfarer)

This tour got three pages in Deke's book, 'RWL'. Also in attendance: Gong, Magma and Larry Coryell.

/quote] i know these comments  may not be a  smoking gun, but i think Herbie Hancock is rather eclectic.most people who like music can dig a song or two that Herbie Hancock has played on. jazz nonsense? maybe i'm taking this out of context somehow; i mean i guess too much of lots of things can be bad,but i grew up thinking all these people from different genres dug each other, the ones that were cool that is...  Herbie Hancock:"speak like a child" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jV1u8vfiyI

It's nice relaxing mood music... I could imagine this playing in a restaurant as I guzzle a vindaloo and wash it down with a lager or three.

Or a plush lounge, where I wander in, in a clingy mini-dress and fishnet stockings... and head over to the wealthiest-looking bloke and murmur, "Hiya, big boy... you looking for some action?"

OK, perhaps I'll stick to the curry scenario, for now ;D

Ahem.

To cut a long story short.....a new and improved transcript thanks to the new multi-function Descrungealator now installed within the Nationsounds Audio Processing Rack. Or shelf.

"Thank you very much indeed. Our association with Hawkwind goes back many years as you probably know - we went to America with them and I remember doing a great tour in France with Hawkwind and I can't remember who was in the band then, probably DikMik or somebody like that, or what's the other fellow's name.....the drummer got sacked 'cos he was caught in possession of Herbie Hancock tapes...Alan his name was....(offstage vox - Alan Powell)...Alan Powell, that's right. And he was sacked for that very reason. So not too much of that jazz nonsense with Dave."

As you see, some of the previous mumbling turned out to be referring to Mr DikMik, although I'm sure Mr Hawk will soon point out that he had in fact left some time before.
