Man at Buxton Festival 1974
« on: May 09, 2010, 12:07:37 PM »
Stumbled across this http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/buxton-74-man.html which I don't seem to recall recalling. Or else I have and I've forgotten about. Probably find it's already somewhere on Jules' site and I hadn't noticed. What a muddy day!

Nick, The first image comes from the Buxton 74 programme, the second is from Rock at the Oval, the picture from the programme comes from a poster at the time, but for some reason is in reverse.

Hi. Back in the mists of time I recall seeing a great photo from the Oval 1972 featuring a "casually attired" Clive John singing and playing in front of the immaculately turned out Gwalia Male Voice Choir. I often search for that one on the web but thus far without success. Anyone come across this photo?

Pete -  could it be a less cropped version (subsequently revealing the Gwalias) of the one that appeared in 'RWL' as 'Clint Unchained'? Or perhaps the one that appeared in 'TWC' 7 on p12 (with beret, alongside Will). Mind you - I'm sure there's another Clint one somewhere...racking brain...

Which brings us neatly to....the 2nd version of 'RWL' which apparently had extra photos. What were they?

I have three photo's with Clive John in casual attire, no male voice choir though,
Clive in the studio, Clive and Will at the Oval and I think the picture with the whole group is from Glastonbury 72.
I keep thinking I've seen a picture of Man and a male voice choir just recently or it could be the video of Deke and Map of India distorting my mind. My memory isn't what it used to be.

Thats the one Jules! Many thanks. Actually, might the source originally have been the Melody Maker? I now recall at the time it appeared cutting it out and having it blown up to poster size for my bedroom wall. Which contrasted jarringly with my girlfriends' Rollers and Osmond pin ups....

Yes, I think so. This scan was lifted out of Clive's scrapbook. I think he was hoping to enter it into a fashion parade.

Amazing how much power a few well-directed Welsh voices can generate.

You're welcome, Pete - even though it was John who put the pictures up! All I did was to muse and waffle on with an air of desperation bordering on self-importance. It comes naturally to me.

Yep, that's them - although this wasn't the gig that appears on the live portion of 'BITF'.

....the 2nd version of 'RWL' which apparently had extra photos. What were they?

Well?

Told you I was impatient. Everything must happen NOW. (pause for dramatic effect....) It's all gone quiet....
